For those interested in some volunteer work, Mathcounts is looking for exam graders and proctors! Mathcounts is a national math competition for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders which consists of a written exam and a head-to-head round in the end. They need help grading the exams (answer keys will be provided), as well as handing them out/taking them up.

For those of you roaming Facebook, the next ASCE meeting is this Thursday, December 2. It will be at 12:00 p.m. in Mech Lab Rm 251. As always, lunch is free! This will be more of a social event to celebrate the end of the semester, so come eat good food, chat with your CEVE classmates, and rest your brains before finals! There will also be activities planned for this meeting. See you all there!
Come to the special pre-registration ASCE meeting, to learn what are the best CEVE classes to take next semester. The meeting is at 12:10 p.m. in MEL 251 on Thursday, 11/11/10. For seniors, we will discuss obtaining FE review books for a deep discount through Rice ASCE. Lunch is free!
Come to the next general meeting tomorrow in MEL 251 at noon. Grant Warnecke, a past president of Rice ASCE, will be speaking as a representative of Shell. As always, lunch is free!
To sign up for the free canoeing trip this Saturday afternoon (12:30 to 5:00), RSVP to Ben at [email protected]. This is an opportunity to practice canoeing for the concrete canoe competition, or just to have fun with other CEVEs!
The next concrete canoe meeting is tonight in the OEDK at 8:00 p.m. The meeting will be focused on the technical aspects of the project, particularly the special materials.
The next CC thematic elements meeting is tomorrow (Saturday, 10/16/10) at 1:00 p.m. in the concrete lab at Ryon Lab.
There will be no general Concrete Canoe (CC) meeting tomorrow (Wed, 10/13/10). The next meeting (3:00 p.m., Saturday 10/16/10) will begin construction of the artistic elements!

Come to the first fall general ASCE meeting today--lunch is provided free! The meeting will be held 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m., in Mechanical Laboratory, room 251. Brett Pope, the president of the ASCE-Houston Younger Members group will come to make a presentation about ASCE at large. Mr. Pope is a practicing geotechnical engineer at Terracon.

ASCE-Houston is helping to host Infrastructure Day at the George R Brown Convention center at 3 p.m, 9/18/10. There will be infrastructure town hall discussions, including debates between candidates of the Harris County Tax Assessor and Judge positions. There will also be educational booths, games, food, etc. The University of Houston concrete canoe will be showcased there as well. For more information, see or .
To attend the event, simply take the light rail down to the Main Street Square station, and walk 15 minutes or take a bus, such as the 81 or 82 (see ridemetro.org for bus schedules) to the George R Brown Convention Center. The center is 6 blocks southeast of the Main Street Square station.
