Did you know that a thyroid patient’s weight gain may be aggravated by an overgrowth of Candida? Candida is a yeast that can easily survive and grow on skin and in your mucous membranes, respiratory tract, and va**na. When you harbor too much yeast, its sheer strength in numbers can tempt your body into eating more and you’ll have cravings for alcohol, sweets and other simple carbohydrates. Yeast thrives on sugar and produces a chemical that makes the body crave anything sweet. The best way to fight overgrowth is to avoid antibiotics and oral contraceptives and cut sugar from your diet. Probiotics are extremely helpful in fighting any yeast currently in your system as they restore your body’s helpful bacteria to normal levels. One of the 10 pillars of my Mind-Body Program for optimal thyroid wellness: Work with your doctor to have the doses of T4 and T3 medications appropriately adjusted based on your symptoms and blood tests. I recommend that you choose a healthcare professional who specializes in thyroid disease, is attentive to your symptoms and concerns, and is open to using a medication program that should include the combination of T4 and T3 that fits your needs. Deviation from perfection in your thyroid hormone levels will affect your well-being, your metabolism, and the reactivity of your immune system.

disease is an autoimmune condition associated with inflammation of some parts of the GI Tract, systemic inflammation, and malabsorption. For Celiac disease patients, it is important to take an excellent and comprehensive mix of vitamins and antioxidants to overcome the depletion of many important vitamins and antioxidants that can perpetuate and aggravate autoimmunity and inflammation. For celiac disease patients, as well as people suffering from minor intolerance and for people suffering from any autoimmune condition, I highly recommend taking ThyroLife Optima, which is a comprehensive mix of vitamins, antioxidants, and other ingredients that help support the immune system. Supplement Spotlight: Meet Relora, an important ingredient in my Thyrolife Body Slim supplement. ThyroLife Body Slim is a supplement designed to naturally speed up your metabolism while reducing food cravings and stress-induced eating. Relora is composed of a proprietary blend of patented extracts, from both Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense, which have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over a thousand years. Constant stress is something that most Americans struggle with on a day-to-day basis and that stress causes our cortisol levels to be elevated. Excess cortisol causes stress-induced eating while making fat accumulate around the waist. Relora helps modulate cortisol levels by relieving short term anxiety and promoting restful sleep. There's a greater link between atrial fibrillation ( ) and disease than you might think. Both conditions can have an impact on your heart.

Q: Dr. Arem, how do I decide whether or not to undergo hormone replacement therapy (HRT)? What about the studies that link taking some types of HRT to heart attacks, cancer, and stroke? How do I figure out the risks?
A: Before you start taking hormones, weigh the risks against the benefits based on your medical history. Avoid HRT if you are diabetic, have cardiovascular disease, or have a history of blood clotting. Always start with the smallest dose possible to relieve menopause symptoms and address weight issues. Keep in mind that you may be predisposed to risks such as breast cancer (although scientific research has not been conducted on bioidentical hormones), so get a mammogram first. I also recommend ultrasound tests if needed, because they provide you with a more accurate evaluation of your breast cancer risk. A family history of breast cancer is a factor against taking HRT. Start eating well and adopt a healthy, active lifestyle like the one in my program. Aim to improve blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol problems.

The things people say… What are some other dumb things people say that you wish they wouldn’t?
I know that it can be difficult for thyroid patients to find a supplement with a well-balanced mix of the two main essential omega-3 fatty acids Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). That’s why I recommend Thyrolife Omega. EPA and DHA are polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acids that have tremendous beneficial effects on the thyroid, immune system, and metabolism. They reduce inflammation and prevent the immune system from attacking your own cells, which is so crucial for people suffering from autoimmune thyroid disorders such as Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Graves’ Disease. They help with brain functions, cognition, and mood. They also provide benefits to the cardiovascular system. For more information on this powerhouse supplement: https://bit.ly/3t8PAmq.
Many patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis continue to suffer from fatigue, exhaustion, and mood changes, as well as weight gain and difficulty losing weight despite having perfectly well-balanced hormone levels with thyroid medication. The root of the persistent symptoms may be an immune system that in agitated, producing inflammation chemicals that promote both physical and mental symptoms, including the fatigue. There is also another potential reason for the persistent symptoms, and that is growth hormone deficiency, caused by autoimmune attack on the pituitary called autoimmune . Growth hormone deficiency in the adult can cause multiple symptoms including fatigue, depression, and weight problems. If you have Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and have continued to suffer from persistent symptoms, you need to address the possibility of growth hormone deficiency with your doctor.

Quite frequently, women being treated for a thyroid imbalance enter infertility programs with no idea that their thyroid condition could be preventing conception and a normal pregnancy. Even more alarming, a significant number of reproductive endocrinologists and gynecologists who treat infertile couples are unaware that a minimal thyroid imbalance can cause infertility. Nor do many of these doctors realize the importance of detecting subtle thyroid abnormalities. Before you spend two years pursuing an infertility protocol, discuss with your doctor the possibility of a thyroid imbalance and ask to have your thyroid tested thoroughly.
