In NIL news... the entire offensive line has signed an endorsement deal with Mission BBQ!
Notre Dame's Entire Offensive Line Just Landed A Big Sponsorship We've seen a few group endorsements so far, including a big one at Notre Dame. The entire offensive line has signed a deal.
And so it begins... With the first name, image, and likeness ("NIL") laws set to take effect July 1, 2021, companies are in a mad dash to be "first" to help athletes monetize their brands. Opendorse, an athlete marketing platform that matches athletes with endorsement opportunities, has partnered with Twitter to help athletes monetize their content via paid video sponsorships.
I keep telling y'all, don't wait until the laws in your state go into effect to learn about your rights and how best to monetize your brand. This train is moving with or without the NCAA. Whether it's a company like Opendorse or just getting a good lawyer (which of course is what I recommend), DO SOMETHING!!! Preferably, give us a call! 713.360.7719
"The deal between Twitter and Opendorse, a sports content publisher, will allow brands, such as Nike, Adidas and Coke, to pitch ideas and compensate athletes for participating in Twitter video campaigns built around a selected theme and geared toward fans of a specific audience.
For instance, Nike may propose a $100,000 ad campaign about workout training tips from Division I basketball players. Using Opendorse Deals—the company’s compliant marketplace—college basketball players who choose to opt into the campaign would create short video clips about their training, post them on their timeline and then, depending on the clip’s viewership, would each receive a cut of the ad budget, sharing the money with other athletes, Opendorse and Twitter..."
Twitter, Opendorse Partner on Sponsorships for NCAA Athletes The deal will allow brands to pitch ideas and compensate athletes for participating in Twitter video campaigns.
5 States have NIL legislation scheduled to take effect on July 1: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi and New Mexico. The NCAA is behind the 8-ball and making a mad dash to get something on the books before everything devolves into chaos. If this is the push they needed, so be it. They can't blame anyone or anything for this except their own stubbornness. The writing has been on the wall for a long time now.
[WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?If you stay ready you don't have to get ready. In the coming weeks we're going to provide information on each state's NIL rule. Get ahead of the curve on maximizing your exposure and earnings during your collegiate career!]

" NCAA president Mark Emmert once again sent college sports administrators scrambling over the weekend when he told the New York Times that he will recommend membership approve name, image and likeness legislation for college athletes before July 1. That's also the day NIL laws go into effect in five states setting off possible recruiting disparities and benefits for athletes beyond anything NCAA legislation has proposed.
If this is how NIL is finally implemented, it's become obvious that it won't fully be the NCAA's call. Whatever strategy the NCAA employed, it has waited too long to have anything resembling full control over possibly the biggest rule change in the association's history.
We're watching the NCAA's influence, power and leverage diminish before our eyes. It needs federal help to implement NIL. Whether or not it gets it, states' NIL laws will supersede whatever the NCAA has in place -- at least for a period of time..."
NCAA rushing a name, image, likeness rule as its power over college athletics is quickly diminishing Now more than ever, the NCAA is vulnerable of becoming irrelevant as an administrative body
Apparently the move of the Rose Bowl didn't sit well with everyone. Since the move, a fight has ensued between the Tournament of Roses Association and the city of Pasadena. The Tournament of Roses invoked the force majeure clause (due to the pandemic) to get the 2021 Rose Bowl moved to AT&T Stadium (AKA Jerryworld/Cowboys Stadium) in Arlington, TX. Since then, Pasadena has asserted that it co-owns "Rose Bowl" and "Rose Bowl Game" and its consent is necessary to invoke the contract's force majeure clause. Allegedly there is a Master License Agreement that requires the Rose Bowl Game be played at Rose Bowl Stadium. So who really owns the marks? We'll let you know what the Court says.
[force majeure: the occurrence of an event outside the control of the parties to a contract that prevent a party from performing its obligations under the contracts; The pandemic was said event]
