Binkley & Barfield | DCCM's Houston Telecommunication and Pipeline groups hosted July's staff celebration with popsicles, cookies, and cake in honor of the milestone anniversaries and birthdays of many of our incredible employees. The afternoon gathering had an Independence Day theme and a fun quiz with Telecommunication and Gas/Pipeline questions. Prizes were awarded to the highest-scoring participants.

Employee Spotlight: Get to know Matt Billiot, a Project Manager in our Houston Binkley & Barfield | DCCM office!

🏞 What do you like to do in your free time? I enjoy spending time with my wife and daughters. We have a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old. Seeing them grow and learn new skills is a lot of fun. We also like to travel and have a goal to see every U.S. National Park (current count is 14).

🤝 What is your favorite thing about your job? At the risk of sounding cheesy or cliché, I really like the people I work with. I think we have a great group of people here at Binkley & Barfield | DCCM, and that really goes a long way towards making the job enjoyable.

📸 Do you have any unique hobbies? I really like photography. During college I worked as a photographer for the local newspaper covering sports as well as photographing weddings and events on the weekends. Now I mostly take pictures when traveling and of my kids. We print a 30-page photo book of each month of their lives, which is a great way to look back and see what we have done and how much they have grown.

🏖 Where is your favorite place to be? Either traveling somewhere with great scenery or hanging out at home. I am always ready for a tropical beach vacation or a trip somewhere I can take some amazing landscape photos. That being said, I also enjoy being a homebody on the weekends and just hanging out around the house with family and friends.

🏈 What would most people be most surprised to learn about you? I got to spend a couple of seasons on the sidelines for the Houston Texans home games as a photographer. I made a highlight reel once when I got run into by Andre Johnson after he caught a touchdown.

💡 What is the most rewarding part of your job? I am always up for a challenge, so figuring out a solution to a tough problem is always rewarding. I enjoy problem-solving and delivering projects for our clients.

We are thrilled to announce that Richard Arvizu, Corporate Vice President at Binkley & Barfield, has been honored as the Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) State Engineer of the Year! Today, he will also be inaugurated as the TSPE State President. Richard has spent 28 years with Binkley & Barfield, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to witness his growth and contributions. We have seen the remarkable impacts Richard has made on our company and his local community, and we are excited to see his positive influence extend statewide.

Binkley & Barfield is proud to be the only engineering firm in Texas to have three individuals recognized as State Engineer of the Year and three individuals serving as TSPE State President. The other distinguished individuals are our Chairman Emeritus, Larry Barfield, PE, FNSPE, FTEF, FSAME, and our President, JR Reddish, PE, FNSPE, FSAME, LEED Green Associate.

Last week, Binkley & Barfield | DCCM and DCCM attended the SAME Public Agency of the Year Banquet at the Junior League of Houston. The event featured Colonel Rhett A. Blackmon, Commander and District Engineer at USACE Galveston District, as the guest speaker. Binkley & Barfield was honored with the award for “Sustaining Large Member Firm of the Year.”

The Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) builds leaders and leads collaboration among government and industry to develop multi-disciplined solutions to national security infrastructure challenges. The Society has a history of uniting public and private sector individuals and organizations from across the architecture, engineering, construction, environmental and facility management, cyber security, project planning, contracting and acquisition, and related disciplines in support of national security.

🎧 What do you like to do in your free time? Although you can never go wrong with lounging on the couch, I get out of the house as much as possible. On a typical day I like to walk my dog while listening to podcasts, work out, try new recipes, and hang out with friends.

👋 What is your favorite thing about your job? My favorite thing about my job is interacting with new people daily. This has allowed me to grow an amazing network over the last few years.

⛳Do you have any unique hobbies? I’d have to replace “unique” with “frustrating” in this question, but I love playing golf.

🏈Where is your favorite place to be? AT&T Stadium here in Dallas. Go Cowboys.

👀What would most people be most surprised to learn about you? I’m red-green color blind. My parents found out in elementary school when I colored red grass on my drawings.

🤝What is the most rewarding part of your job? I find a lot of fulfillment in uncovering a candidate’s professional issues and solving those issues with the right opportunity at Binkley & Barfield | DCCM. There’s so much reward in knowing that you helped somebody open a new door to a better situation.

Binkley & Barfield | DCCM hosted TxDOT’s groundbreaking ceremony for the IH 20 widening project. As we break new ground, Binkley & Barfield | DCCM will provide construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for this project in the Odessa District. This highly anticipated improvement project will relieve congestion, increase safety, and boost efficiency for the entire metroplex.

Segment 2 of the project will widen a 5-mile segment of IH 20 east of John Ben Shepperd Parkway to the Midland County line and from the Ector County line to the east of CR 1300. Segment 3 of the project will widen a 5-mile segment of IH 20 from east of CR 1300 to east of CR 1250 in Midland County.

Noteworthy, this project is the largest single contract the Odessa District has ever built.

The Binkley & Barfield | DCCM Houston Human Resources group hosted June’s staff celebration today with ice cream, cut fruit, and Nutter Butter Flip-Flop cookies in honor of the milestone anniversaries and birthdays of many of our incredible employees. The afternoon gathering had a pool party theme, decorated with cooler palm trees and fun pool inflatables.

National Donut Day was a delightful celebration at the Binkley & Barfield | DCCM Houston office! Colleagues gathered around a colorful spread of assorted donuts, sharing laughter, and taking photos with our donut photo props. It was a perfect break from the usual work routine, bringing everyone together to enjoy some sugary treats and camaraderie.

This week, Binkley & Barfield | DCCM attended the 2024 TX-APWA Annual Conference in San Antonio! Not only did we have a successful time networking at the conference, but our very own Chris Campbell, PE, and John Jaeger, gave a presentation with Matt Koziol, PE (Schnabel Engineering), and Tim McQueary, PE (HB Trenchless). The topic of the presentation was "Design of an 84-Inch Water Transmission Line Curved Tunnel Under a Major Texas Highway Interchange,” on our North Harris County Regional Water Authority (NHCRWA) water transmission line project designed and built as part of NHCRWA’s ongoing work to provide surface water to the citizens of northwest Harris County.

The project was an 84-inch diameter water transmission line designed and built as part of NHCRWA’s ongoing work to provide surface water to the citizens of northwest Harris County. The presentation specifically focused on the 960-foot-long curved tunnel included in the design that crossed SH 249. The tunnel was curved to avoid conflicts with multiple highway bridge structures in the area and was 40 feet deep to avoid conflicts with multiple petroleum pipelines. Construction of this project was the culmination of an ongoing 19-year project between Binkley & Barfield | DCCM and NHCRWA.

The Binkley & Barfield | DCCM Family of Companies treated our employees with our 8th Annual Food Truck Lunch, supporting an amazing local charity! Everyone enjoyed getting some fresh air and mingling outside in the courtyard. The Waffle Bus (with their signature fried chicken and waffles) and The Burger Joint (with their hand-crafted, always fresh burgers) food trucks provided a delicious lunch, and Kona Ice provided their tropical shaved ice for dessert.

Our employees brought various donations for Casa De Esperanza de los Niños, a local nonprofit organization that provides a safe place for children in crisis due to abuse or neglect. They strive to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect for at-risk infants, children, and families by providing comprehensive residential and family support programs that transform people and communities.
