Ireland's greatest poets have always been keenly aware of their moment in history; however, their poetry typically resists the simplifications of the headlines. Instead, Dr. Russell argues, their art embraces a vocabulary and form that are both something more f leeting and more lasting than the news of the day. Dr. Russell is Professor of English at Baylor University, where he teaches modern and contemporary British and Irish literature. He earned his Ph.D. and M.A. in English Literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He also holds an M. Phil. in English Literature (Modernism) from the University of Glasgow in Scotland. Dr. Russell has published extensively on Irish and Northern Irish literature, including: • Poetry and Peace: Michael Longley, Seamus Heaney, and Northern Ireland (University of Notre Dame Press, 2010) • Seamus Heaney’s Regions (University of Notre Dame Press, 2014) • Seamus Heaney: A Critical Introduction (Edinburgh University Press, 2016)
