On Saturday we had the pleasure of joining other amazing community organizations at Boynton Chapel Methodist Church-Houston to make sure every kid starts the school year off right! We gave out school supplies to ~100 kids and asked them what they would do if THEY were President. Pressing issues include housing for all, universal basic income, and free snacks! (s/o to our intrepid volunteer Amber White!)

We are hiring 4 full-time paid people who will support the GOTV efforts of the 2024 coordinated campaign. But the job doesn't end in November! At the end of the initial phase of the program (Election Day), apprentices will be placed in full-time positions at allied organizations that share their values.

To kick-off the hiring process, there is a boot camp August 3rd - 4th at the party office.

This is not a brief training course - the Katy Jewett Organizer Apprenticeship is a 16 month-long fully paid career pathway designed to give applicants a strong grounding in our local, state, and national political system, an understanding of how things work and how we can change them, and the skills and relationships applicants will need to enact real, meaningful change.

Apprentices will then be placed on staff in a full-time paid position at the Harris County Democratic Party, where they will support the GOTV efforts of the 2024 coordinated campaign. They will continue to receive intensive classroom and field training throughout the fall, working with Democratic allies and campaigns to develop the skills they need to build a career in political organizing.

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must attend a campaign bootcamp on August 3rd and 4th in Houston.

A hiring committee made up of representatives from the Katy Jewett Memorial Training Fund, the Harris County Democratic Party, and hiring organizations participating in the apprenticeship will meet to evaluate candidates and invite qualified applications to interview on August 14th.

Successful candidates will receive offer letters following their interviews, and will start on September 3rd.

We are saddened to learn of the recent passing of Representative Sheila Jackson Lee. She will be remembered for her tireless, decades-long service to the constituents of District 18, and her legacy will live on in the memories of countless Houstonians whose lives she changed for the better. Rest in peace.
