Congratulations to our founder Dr. Cristal Chanelle Truscott on receiving the 2023 United States Artists Award () in Theatre and Performance! The USA Fellowship recognizes the contributions of creative innovation from the totality of an artist's practice and career.

In the early days of Progress Theatre, we were invited to perform at IMAN's "Community Cafe" and welcomed into a powerhouse of extraordinary change-makers fostering health, wellness and healing in the inner-city. Folks who are daily examples of "practicing what you preach." It's been an extraordinary inspiration to work with IMAN and be a witness to its growth from ONE building on the south side of Chicago to a WHOLE CAMPUS that serves the community daily with a free holistic health center, arts studios & residencies, transitional housing & education for at-risk youth, a fresh food market -- all while organizing for social change! Developed by Dr. Cristal Chanelle Truscott from generations-old African American performance traditions, SoulWork trains artists to engage the fullness of their identities to cultivate creative power through an inclusive, culturally-responsive, socially-conscious studio practice.
