University of Houston’s Fertitta Center was designed as a true multi-purpose center. The arena is used for men’s and women’s basketball games, volleyball games, commencement ceremonies, circus performances, and a wide range of music concerts. Acoustical control is an important design consideration for multipurpose arenas due to the open design and acoustically reflective surfaces generally present.

K-13 Black was applied to the arena’s ceiling to meet these requirements. K-13 reduces excessive noise levels and reverberation, allowing full utilization of the center, because of its exceptional sound absorption properties. K-13 Black helps to create a black-out effect, good for events like ceremonies, while also complimenting the Fertitta Center’s lighting system, which is good for events like concerts

The Q2 Headquarters in Austin, TX, is a state-of-the-art office space designed to reflect the company's innovative spirit and commitment to fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. In modern office spaces like Q2 Headquarters, the open-plan design is popular for promoting teamwork and communication. However, this layout can also lead to significant noise challenges, with conversations, phone calls, and office equipment generating a constant background hum. Without proper acoustic insulation, this noise can quickly become disruptive, impairing concentration and productivity.

To create a comfortable and productive work environment for both employees and clients, K-13 in White was applied at a 2-inch thickness to the ceiling of the 44,800 sq ft area. This application effectively reduces reverberation and controls sound throughout the office by absorbing disruptive noise. As a result, employees can converse, make calls, and present without interference.

The city of Houston tasked Studio Red Architects with the formidable project of converting a five-story, former rice storage facility, constructed in the 1920s, into a much-needed centralized permitting office. Additionally, the city required the building to achieve LEED® certification.

Without adequate acoustical finishes, hard surfaces and materials, which reflect sound, will produce echo, reverberation, and excessive noise, decreasing functionality and occupant comfort. SonaSpray “fc” was chosen for this project because of its exceptional acoustical performance and aesthetic appeal.

Originally built in 1924, the Highland Park Town Hall underwent a major renovation and restoration project by RPGA Design Group, Inc. Prior to this project, the town hall had received numerous renovations throughout the years. This resulted in a complex campus that lacked connectivity between departments and adequate accessibility for residents.

Typical of the Spanish Colonial Revival style, the original interior consisted of virtually all hard surfaces. This created an acoustical challenge, as hard surfaces reflect sounds, degrading speech intelligibility and decreasing productivity. To address this challenge without compromising the design objectives, the RPGA Design team selected SonaKrete Premium Acoustic Finish for the ceilings of the public corridors and council chambers. SonaKrete absorbs excessive sounds rather than reflecting them, improving speech intelligibility and enhancing ambient sound quality.

Spray-applied and hand-hand-tro, SonaKrete provides a smooth, plaster-like finish perfect for the aesthetic the designers wanted to preserve. In addition to acoustic performance, the application provides light reflectivity and helps highlight stunning craftsmanship and ornate details. This project has ensured that the Highland Park Town Hall will remain a functional and beautiful part of the community for many years to come!

Mamacita’s restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, takes advantage of the traditional Mexican atmosphere and the many tourist attractions in the city. Designers wanted to provide an escape for guests by taking them back to a small cozy Mexican town.

Designers needed an acoustical material that effectively made the ceiling disappear. Acoustic baffles and tiles would have dramatically clashed with the visual effects designers were trying to create. SonaSpray "fc" provides high acoustical values and does not interfere with the effect.

The special Twilight Blue color effectively made the ceiling appear to be a calm, clear evening. In combination, SonaSpray “fc” and the fiber-optic lighting system complete the illusion and allow patrons to enjoy a festive clear evening in a small Mexican town, even if it is raining outside.
