On Saturday, Melody's participated in the Houston Highland Games. Been doing this for many years in various configurations: harp ensemble, Gulf Coast Harpers, solos, etc. The past two years as backup for Sia Beaton. Wolf Pickus made his solo debut. If you want to download the arrangement he played of Amazing Grace, it's on our blog: https://folkharp.com/harp-at-the-highland-games/
A few new titles added.

The funeral of Stan Guy, friend, harpist and composer/arranger, will be livestreamed. Here is the information from Stan’s husband, David: I just wanted to make sure that you guys know that Stan’s Memorial Service will be this Saturday. (September 21) If you‘re not able to make that trip, it will be streamed on First Unitarian’s website:
LiveStream - First Unitarian Church of Dallas A voice of progressive religion in Dallas since 1899, working toward a more just and compassionate world in all of what we do.
We had some recording fun yesterday. Nicks' mom, Sia Beaton, has been a good friend for 20+ years. She's a Scottish and Cherokee historian, and singer-songwriter. New songs coming out soon, and then we start the Winter Solstice project.... how lucky we are that Nick has recording equipment and expertise. We'll work on the decor as time permits!
Harp Teachers Gathering returns this fall. Join us on the 2nd Thursday of each month: Save the date for September 12 at 3pm Central time. Our special guest is harp educator Kela Walton, who will share information on the business of harp teaching. Other discussions will include teaching apps, mentors, insurance, organizations to join, and more. Contributions by Therese Honey, Kimberly Snaufer DeRosa and Mary Radspinner. Hosted by Kimberly and Therese. To Register: https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZIvce-gpjwrHNSzxs2PD3cE6KORCSbzajvj
Chevelle has arrived at Melody's. I bought Chevelle upon learning my style 30 is in pretty bad shape. Kurt Berg introduced me to her, and delivered her today. She's a Venus Penti-C. Normally I don't name harps or give them a gender; but she has history so the name and gender stays!
Kurt Berg will be at Melody's on Sunday and Monday, September 1 and 2, 2024. He is available to regulate pedal harps. This is an impromptu visit. Kurt is delivering an unusual 2-of-a-kind pedal harp to us. If your pedal harp needs regulation, please either call us at 281-890-4500 or email Nick at
What is your opinion - to buy it or not. It's a Triplett Signature in Walnut for $4000 and it was owned by Father Gregory with whom John had a friendly relationship of respect, humor, religion, and of course, harps. It's a good price and has sentimental value as well. I am very tempted. Wolf cheerfully and on a whim suggested that he play it on YouTube to see if "he" can "sell" it (to someone else). I'm really close to buying it.... but I already have a Dusty in walnut. Suggestions and opinions are gratefully accepted.
Wolf demonstrates the Triplett Signature in Walnut Available at Melody's currently, meaning August 28, 2024.
Congratulations to Mattie and Wolf, the new Melody's kids, for their video submissions to the Milwaukee Area Piano Teachers Association summer festival. (not only for piano). Here they are with their medals! Congratulations to them and their parents (Sue and Nick Pickus) for supporting music education. Teacher is happy, too. :-) ♥

Many of you remember what a great lever harp regulator John was. You may not know he taught Nick his craft. Nick has been regulating and repairing instruments on and off for over 20 years, since he worked at Melody's way back in 2001-ish. He's scheduling 1-2 lever harps per week. Call 281-890-4500 and make your appointment today!
Thank you to Susanna Wang for gracing us with another Monday Melodies with Melody's. Enjoy Frank Voltz's arrangement of Amazing Grace.

We received a couple of new Dusty Strings and they wanted a family portrait.
We are lifetime members of the Gulf Coast Harpers whose mission is to support and nurture young harp students. The latest GCH newsletter didn't fit into Constant Contact (too many pictures of award winners) so it's now part of Melody's Blog: https://folkharp.com/08-24-gulf-coast-harpers-newsletter/
It's great to have a customer who wants to improve both their playing and their mechanical skills. I'm also proud that Nick is taking over for John in the teaching and regulation department. And it is wonderful to have a loyal customer like Yi Ying.
Very happy to be a sponsor for the Houston Summer Harp Festival. It's nice to be appreciated, too!
We've been busy preparing harps for Harp Doc's regulation trip. Except for lever harps - John taught Nick all he knew about regulation on lever harps. We have a bubinga Dusty FH36 on consignment that is gorgeous.

I bought a Ravenna 26 from Melody's yesterday. I kept John's Honda Fit and look how great it fits!
We regret to inform you that Stan Guy, one of our Afghan Press artists, passed away yesterday. We send our sincerest condolences to his family and the Dallas harpists where he was very active. Stan, a lovely and gentle man who was both a friend and customer, will be missed.
Like we couldn't get enough of each other, on Monday we returned to Brookwood to play at their restaurant. The food is really good - really good! This was like a Random Acts of Harping - except getting multiple harpists together at the same time and coordinating solid jewel tops is never random. It is a Molly thing. The Gulf Coast Harpers provides memorial scholarships for harp students to attend the Houston Summer Harp Festival. https://gulfcoastharpers.com/
Christ Church Sugar Land's Sacred Harps group joined by members of the Gulf Coast Harpers played at Brookwood's Sunday afternoon service. Brookwood is a community for adults with disabilities located an 485 acres in Brookshire, TX.
