The first time we assembled the entire Heartbeat of Austin 💚 🤍 🖤 mosaic mural together just outside @q2stadium and @capmetroatx McKalla Station 🚉 where it’s now permanently installed! @naedaze got this crazy drone shot 🎥 ✈️ to show the color in sunshine and scale of it at over 80 feet long. @zoeaxelrod.xd @shot_by_danny_ @dondestarigo @darkmode.photo and just a few others there to help lay it out and check just once with a sneak peek before we installed. The community workdays did amazingly well and we had very few edits to make! Thanks to everyone who came and placed tiles and support this ambitious yearlong project in any way large or small. The Heartbeat of Austin mosaic mural Installation coming soon..!!! In the meantime, CapMetro is starting service tomorrow with a ribbon cutting at McKalla station from 10am. All are welcome. There is still work being done at the station, so our mural will be installed in March, and the unveiling for the artwork is scheduled for Saturday April 6th, 5pm before the home game. I won’t get into the gritty construction details, but it will be worth the wait! Recently I had the pleasure of sharing the mosaic magic 🪄 with @bakibaking who was in town with @kasazu for painting a mural 🎨 at @urokoaustin at @springdalegeneral 💫 He was painting long hours to finish his awesome two-story 🪜 mural at @urokoaustin @urokonotonari 🍣 next to @mediciroasting ☕️ at Springdale General. Just wrapped up “Loretta” for The Loretta, new affordable housing project in Lakeline. Foundation Communities is a homegrown nonprofit that’s been providing affordable housing and free on site supportive services in Austin for over 30 years. Loretta depicted in the mural was the last calf born in the pasture where this community was built. She now has calves of her own and lives happily in a pasture in Leander with the rest of her herd. Thanks to the @foundationcommunities team for the support and integrating art in this project. Shout out to @zoeaxelrod.xd for the design assist! Went and did it. “The New Yorker” is my first NFT minted on the ol’ blockchain. Thanks to @starkeymiles and @mintgolddust for making the process super smooth like Peanut butter baby. Original mosaic artwork depicting the Cadillac of aerosol caps is 48in x 48in x 3in made of 12,100 hand-placed glass tiles, 2021. Weighing in over 50 lbs. the original piece is big and heavy, another reason why this 3D animated 1/1 NFT version is so clutch. Finally able to share what we’ve been working on all year… ATX Urban Art will be a first of its kind art book documenting graffiti, street art, murals and mosaics of Austin over the last 50 years. Thanks to the contributions and legacies of all the artists past and present for paving the way and for keeping Austin’s scene going strong today. The book will be 500+ pages featuring 100+ artists with over 1000 pictures, some never before seen and others more recently captured to showcase both permanent and ephemeral artworks for the first time in print.
