"Given that Paxton's office lacks the legal authority to overrule local prosecutors, it’s unclear what this could lead to except cherry-picking documents to portray cases that don’t result in a conviction as mishandled."

BREAKING: Indivisible Houston Endorses Lauren Ashley Simmons for House District 146
Grassroots Group Weighs in on Hotly Contested Runoff
Houston, TX, (March 12, 2024)- Indivisible Houston's advisory board and executive board have voted unanimously to endorse Lauren Ashley Simmons for the HD-146 Harris County Democratic Primary Runoff.
"Throughout this hard-fought race in the primaries, Lauren Ashley Simmons has shown a commitment to integrity, respect, and service to the community,” said spokeswoman Nia Hernandez. “Lauren's unwavering support for the people of District 146 make her the clear choice in the race.”
“Indivisible Houston proudly stands behind Lauren Ashley Simmons, and we will continue to support her vigorously in this runoff election. Harris County deserves a State Representative who will uphold democratic values and fight tirelessly for the interests of our community. Lauren Simmons is that candidate, and we are confident that she will serve District 146 with distinction and honor."
In the March primary, Simmons led incumbent Shawn Thierry 49%-44% and came within 60 votes of winning the race outright. She immediately secured the endorsement of the third candidate in the race, Black Lives Matter Houston founder Ashton P. Woods.
Per the Texas Observer, Thierry "received $28,000 from the Charter Schools Now PAC, $25,000 from conservative Dallas billionaires Darwin and Douglas Deason, $10,000 from the pro-voucher Family Empowerment Coalition, $10,000 from the powerful pro-tort reform PAC Texans for Lawsuit Reform, backed by the Republican establishment, and $50,000 from the Texas Sands PAC, which was created to push for the legalization of casinos and bankrolled largely by Miriam Adelson, widow of Trump mega-donor Sheldon Adelson."
Simmons joins four other candidates Indivisible Houston endorsed this cycle during the first round of the primaries: Sean Teare, Christian Menefee, Allison Mathis, and Gemayel Haynes. Teare defeated incumbent DA Kim Ogg 75%-25% in a historic victory; Menefee and Mathis also won by wide margins. Haynes faces Ogg’s Chief of Staff Vivian King in the runoff for the 486th criminal court.
The election takes place May 28th.

Hey y'all!
We are so proud of all of the community members who worked together to elect Sean Teare and Allison Mathis, and to reelect Christian Menefee. Thank you so much for your efforts. The grassroots is powerful!
This is your reminder that the runoff is coming. We have some big announcements for it, but in the meantime, we want to remind you that we'll be working to elect Gemayel Haynes for Judge!
Gemayel is a sharp attorney with strong experience, a reform mindset, and a great temperament and character to be a judge. He has our full support!
Gemayel is also running against Disgraced Defeated DA Kim Ogg's Chief of Staff Vivian King.

Houston Grassroots Organizers Celebrate Primary Election Results! Houston organizers share the results of key races and Harris County and the impact that grassroots organizers had and delivering the results that they worked...
"People didn't like how she weaponized her office to go after people within the party," said Daniel Cohen, a precinct chair and organizer who supported the resolution, which ultimately passed by a wide margin in December.
Until that point, the grievances listed in the resolution had been open secrets, Cohen said.
"It was just a matter of the public starting to actually discuss it," Cohen said.
Cohen rejects the idea that Ogg's loss can be chalked up to "powerful enemies" like Soros.
"When she says 'powerful people beat me,' I think it's hilarious," Cohen said, instead attributing the outcome to the many grassroots supporters who put in the work to elect Teare. "I look at the pictures (of organizers) and I'm like, they are powerful, but they're not what you think. It shows you that people can be powerful. People can hold their own elected officials accountable."

""The normalization of demonizing immigrants is a plague on our society," Cohen said by phone Tuesday. "This is not normal. It will never be normal. And it is dangerous what Ed Young is doing. He owes everybody an apology and frankly they should be calling for his resignation."
Second Baptist Church did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday."

You can't make this stuff up.
True to form, the DA spent her Election Day casting doubt on our elections over an isolated incident in which her partner cast a ballot that initially counted as her own. The error has been corrected.
Disgraced DA Kim Ogg must cease her peddling of MAGA talking points over elections. We support the clerk's handling of this issue, and encourage the continuation of free and fair elections in Harris County despite Ogg's best efforts.
Harris County Clerk's Office issues statement after DA Kim Ogg unable to cast ballot Tuesday morning According to Harris County Clerk Teneshia Hudspeth, this appears to be an isolated issue.
It was hot and the chocolate melted but we still had a good time and asked some folks to remind their friends to vote.

"In the primary, she lost her endorsement from the Houston LGBTQ+ Political Caucus, though she earned it in the general election. This time around, Ogg—who, in our conversation, accused the caucus of not representing the interests of “truly gay people,” citing its lack of endorsements for “qualified” gay candidates—didn’t apply for the caucus’s endorsement."
