This summer, something amazing was born from a simple conversation with my friend and colleague Oona Nelson. We both felt the need for qualified instructors in our studios, and Oona sparked a brilliant idea: "Why not train them ourselves?" 💡

I'm thrilled to announce my partnership with Veritas Pilates for an extraordinary opportunity: my very first teacher training program! If you know me, you know my love for all things movement, but Pilates holds a special place in my heart. It's been my anchor, my rejuvenator, and my strength for over 30 years – through a dance career, two beautiful babies, and now navigating my 50s. This isn't magic; it's the power of the Pilates method.

After our lesson today, we found a swimming spot. 😍 Now it’s time for Tai Chi.

Tomorrow is a full moon and this tiny little town is setting up for their annual festa. I keep imagining it’s all for my retreat, which also starts tomorrow. I love Monday mornings at the studio, when everything has been freshly cleaned, and the morning light and fresh air comes streaming in. We’ve added a new class on Wednesdays at 1:00. If noon class fills up try grabbing a spot in that one. See you on the mat!

Fitness peeps, please read on: The most amazing thing happened this weekend! I became a Gyrotonic® certified Instructor, but more importantly, I did it as part of this amazing group of 14 Black women (cue Daddy, smiling up in Heaven).
This was a program created by to certify Black instructors at little/no cost to them. For too long now, I have seen studio owners and teacher trainers, when asked why their studios lack diversity reply, “I don’t know any BIPOC instructors.” 😑 (cue Daddy rolling his eyes up in Heaven).
Here’s your answer: TRAIN THEM! If you don’t think that’s possible, DM me and I’ll tell you all about the program. Or contact Justine at Elements and ask her how she did it. I truly believe the entire health & fitness industry should be looking at this model right now, and duplicating it. No more excuses. DIVERSIFY YOUR STUDIOS!! Because if your studio staff and clientele is not representing the world around you, then you really need to ask yourself if you aren’t just part of the problem.
