3 days after 2020 tax season is officially over… and getting ready for 2021 season.

The IRS has now updated their site. You can now check the status of your child tax credit advance, opt out of receiving the advance payments, and also review Q&A about the advance. Below you can find the link to the IRD website.

We’ve received many questions on the additional Child Tax Credit that was approved under the American Rescue Act. This credit increased the $2000 CTC to either $3,000 or $3,600 depending on your child’s age (for qualifying income levels). The credit also has an advancement component that will begin to be distributed in July. You have an option to opt out to make changes to your filing status or number of children, however this portal has not been released on the IRS’s website. Below you will find the link to the IRS page that will give more details on this credit. Also, remember, we are always here to help answer your questions.

With the American Rescue Plan being passed yesterday, there are some changes that affect 2020 tax returns. We know many of you (especially the ones who have already filed) have questions. We are staying on top of all these changes, but unfortunately the IRS currently has no guidance. We will be able to contact our clients that these changes effect as soon as we know the process.

If you have not filed, we are still taking appointments and accepting new clients.

I’ve been seeing a lot of advertising of NC taxpayers saving a lot of money if they install Solar Panels. Please contact your tax preparer or accountant before you take the plung. Many of these company do not tell you the tax limits prior to selling you these products. Not everyone will get the same savings. It all depends on your income and other deductions you may or may not have.

Tax Season was extended 3 months due to Covid-19, however the IRS has no plans to extend it any further. The deadline to file without filing an additional extension is JULY 15th.

We’ve had a lot of calls today about stimulus bill as well as grants and loans for small businesses. We will get information out as we get it. Below is two links:

1. Small Business Assoc. this is where you can apply for loans. Some are required to be paid back and a few are not. Funds are limited to apply!
