It’s hard to believe this page turned four years old yesterday. I started Just The Facts because I was fed up with the empty, shallow, meaningless drivel that too much of the news is saturated with. Gossip and rumors, bickering and infighting, fake news and misinformation, palace intrigue, mind-numbing White House drama, propaganda and conspiracy theories.

I wanted to create a page that I would want to follow: a page that only reports on actual news, substantive stories about things that matter. I made this page with the hope that it will help at least a few people, but hopefully more, become more educated, more informed and more curious and skeptical about the world around them and where they get their information from while also motivating them to do what they can to make the world a better, safer, more just and more equal place for everyone.

It has now been 15 years since the federal minimum rose to $7.25 Fifteen years ago this Wednesday, the federal minimum wage went up from $6.55 per hour to $7.25. It hasn't budged since.

The more I think about it, the more Mark Kelly becomes my favorite choice for VP Harris’ running mate. With a resume that includes 39 combat missions in the Gulf War and FOUR Space Shuttle missions (two as pilot, two as Commander), he is a genuine bona fide Grade A American hero.

He’s been a popular Senator of Arrizona for 3.5 years and if he’s chosen, Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs will choose his replacement. And with Gabby Giffords being his wife, supporters of gun control reform and everyone who has been impacted by gun violence will have their biggest advocate in the White House since the debate arguably started 25 years ago with Columbine.

Silver lining: President Biden was just told by the Supreme Court that he has absolute immunity with official acts from his office and now he doesn’t have to worry about getting re-elected. Let’s see him end his term with the same energy Trump ended his.

I want to see a flurry, an avalanche, a tidal wave, of executive actions covering everything from climate change to taxing billionaires and corporations to expanding the Supreme Court to gun control to abortion to gay and trans rights.

I’m ready to see President Biden when he is unburdened by the pressures of a campaign and has zero f***s left.

Biden can cough and stutter and stumble all he wants. I really don’t care. It doesn’t change a thing. All the celebrities and pundits saying Biden should drop out really should stop.

248 years ago today, the Declaration of Independence was unanimously ratified by all 56 delegates of the Second Continental Congress. As the title implies, this document declared to the world that the United States was a land of democracy. We will not be ruled by a tyrant or king. It is up to us, we, the People, to form a more perfect Union.

That Union has definitely improved over the years and decades and centuries but it’s not perfect. That perfection is an ideal that is constantly reached for but never fully achieved. And now the Supreme Court has essentially undone 248 years of progress by declaring that Presidents have absolute immunity pertaining to official actions undertaken while in office. The Supreme Court declared that the President of the United States could be a King if they so chose.

Those six conservatives on that bench, they completely disregarded the words that were written down on that parchment. All the Republicans who say “what would the Founding Fathers think of (blank)” should be absolutely shocked and enraged at this dangerous expansion of power. The US Declaration of Independence was also a Declaration of Outrage at the British King who was abusing and manipulating the citizens of the 13 colonies.

And now, the six conservatives have brought us back to square one. Because of them, the guardrails are off and legally, nothing is stopping the President from becoming a tyrant. Right now, we are lucky enough to have a decent man as President. However you feel about politics and policies, he holds no malice toward people. He’s not perfect but he cares and he tries.

If he loses in November, make no mistake: we will have an unrestrained tyrant in the White House. There will be no guardrails. He will be off-leash. All he has and all he knows is malice toward everyone. He will have the support of the conservative Justices, three of which he appointed, who will defend and justify whatever he deems necessary to satisfy his endless need for approval, adoration and power.

The presidential election of 2020 was dubbed “A battle for the soul of the nation.” The election coming up in four months will be known as “a battle for the future of the nation.” This election doesn’t just determine who becomes President for the next four years. It will determine the fate of the country for the next 40 years. You can vote for Joe Biden in November and vote for your favorite Progressive in 2028 or you can let that evil, egomaniacal, power-hungry, dark-hearted demon back into the White House and never vote again.

Your vote matters. If it didn’t, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to take it away. The choice is yours. Make it while you still can.

The Supreme Court just ruled that Donald Trump has absolute immunity for official acts that were undertaken by him when he was President. They have reminded us of and further proven that which we already knew – no one is coming to save us. There is no white knight who is going to rescue us from this nightmare. There is no silver bullet, no deus ex machina, no last minute solution, no shortcut. None. Zero. Zip. Nada. No help is coming. We have to help ourselves. It is up to US to save this country by voting for Biden.

I really don’t care how you feel about him. Your options are Biden or Trump. You can either vote for Biden or help put Trump back in office. Voting for Biden helps Biden. Everything else helps Trump. Voting third party helps Trump. Writing in a candidate helps Trump. Protest voting helps Trump. Not voting helps Trump. Vote for Biden or this country as we know it will cease to exist.

The Supreme Court just said Presidents can do whatever the hell they want as long as it’s an “official act”. If Trump wins, imagine what he’ll do as an “official act”. Within a month, we’ll have executive orders banning abortion and same s*x marriage nationwide, the southern border will be shut down completely, all gay and trans servicemembers in the military will be discharged and all actions to halt or study climate change will be stopped across the entire federal government. The Supreme Court will strip the Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act down to their bones. This will become far more of a fascist, racist, white nationalist hellscape than it already is.

Doomscrolling and falling into a bottomless pit of panic helps no one. Deep breath in, deep breath out, and let this harden your resolve to ensure Biden wins in November. Vote for Biden as if your life depends on it. Because no matter who you are or where you live, I promise you – it does.
