Another crucial point to emphasize is recognizing the intelligence of our nervous system. There is an innate wisdom within us that has developed over generations, passed down through our genes, embodying ancestral knowledge that has kept us alive. By truly listening to and interpreting this feedback, we can find relief from pain and growth from stress.

I often use the metaphor of a rock in our shoe to illustrate this. When we have a rock in our shoe, the feedback from our body tells us exactly where it is. We know how to interpret that sensation and make the proper intervention: remove the shoe, shake out the rock, and put the shoe back on. As soon as we confirm the rock is gone, we forget about it and move on. This metaphor applies perfectly to how we should handle pain and stress.

Stress, much like pain, is a form of feedback. When we identify the source of stress and make the appropriate interventions, we can achieve relief. By honing our ability to interpret stress signals quickly, before they become detrimental to our health, we begin to master stress. We start using stress for its intended purpose: to learn, grow, pivot when necessary, and ultimately refine, build, strengthen, and guide us toward our purpose and fulfillment.

I launched a website for the first time in many years. In the past I built my practice through referrals. I was proud of it. My mentor, Dr. Dan McMurtry taught me the best advertising is a patient getting well. I believed that. I still hold that concept in high esteem, however, a referral based business is vulnerable, depending on other people to tell your story. I am grateful for great coaches and mentors. The greatest coach I’ve ever known is Sean Callagy, founder of Unblinded. He taught me the virtues of telling your own story. Defining your own identities. I decided a few years back to step away from full-time practice with the vision of doing more. Serving more. Creating more impact. The path to causing positive impact is uncertain and unclear. I know I am on that path with every patient interaction I have. I know I am on that path with each program that I design to help others.

β€œGut Microbiota in Anxiety and Depression: Unveiling the Relationships and Management Options.” Something must be in the air, as several people have sent me this in the past few months. Thanks to each and every person. Here are a few snippets of many that stuck out to me:

Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium species were found to be capable of reducing depression to a large extent. The points mentioned above suggest that gut microbiota has a role in developing anxiety and depression. Anxiety and depression are gut–brain axis disorders that can be treated with the help of the gut microbiota, which offers a unique approach to modifying neurotransmitter regulation in the brain.

A greater incidence of depression is substantially linked to a lower protein consumption than recommended. A 10% increase in protein consumption was shown to reduce the incidence of depression considerably in South Korea and in the United States. Several biological explanations have linked the intake of protein and depression. These theories are supported by the fact that tryptophan, an amino acid, is a precursor of serotonin.

This is Home. Thank you Carrie Ormond for making our house a home. Its 6 am, I am sitting in a hotel room in Costa Mesa, prepping to see patients this weekend. It’s day one and I miss them.

Why do I leave my home and my family once a month to treat patients 6 hours away from my Arizona home? Some people say it’s crazy to drive that far each month.

I don’t disagree.

But here’s the truth. What an elite athlete does to prepare their bodies for competition is β€œcrazy” to most. To them, it’s doing what ever it takes to perform at the highest level. That’s the β€œcrazy” I identify with. And, anyone who I’ve had the pleasure of working on has felt the positive impact of my β€œcrazy” efforts to provide More for them. Another truth is, I love my family so much. They are the source of my greatest Joy in life. And. I love serving my patients, I love them, its my privilege to be a resource in helping them achieve every good outcome they desire. To my Huntington Beach peeps, I am here this weekend, my schedule is packed and I am prepared to deliver at the highest level.

One effective stretch is called the cat-cow stretch. Get down on all fours and round your back like a cat, then arch it downwards like a cow. Repeat this movement for a few minutes each day to help relieve tension and increase flexibility! 🌟
