Many children in Alabama rely heavily on free and reduced breakfasts and lunches five days a week. However, the weekend creates a nutritional gap leaving many children hungry when they return to school on Monday. Secret Meals fills the gap these children experience by discreetly slipping into their backpack, on Fridays, vitamin-fortified and nutritional meals

Meet Ellie Putman

Ellie is a rockstar and taking names left and right!

Ellie is licensed in both Tennessee and Alabama, and she has also been admitted to practice in the Federal District Courts for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama. She is an alumna of the National Criminal Defense College Trial Practice Institute.

Ellie earned her J.D. with a concentration in Trial Advocacy from the University of Tennessee College of Law. GO VOLS! She was awarded Best Appellate Brief for the Advocate’s Prize Moot Court Competition, and she was named a Summers, Rufolo & Rodgers Trial Advocacy Scholar. Prior to joining NXTSTEP Criminal Law, she worked as an Assistant Public Defender for the State of Tennessee Public Defenders Conference. Ellie later joined Maynard, Cooper & Gale’s Correctional Litigation practice group. She and her husband, Nathan, live in North Alabama with their three-year-old son, Charlie, and their three dogs, J.J., Shy, and Chipper.

Jamie and Ellie have been working very hard defending a client who was charged with some very serious felony charges in the Curcuit Court of Madison County for over a year. Jamie and Ellie just knew that this client was innocent and began issuing subpoenas and planning for jury selection and the trial to begin.

After being presented with several offers from the State to lessen the charges but still be found guilty, NXTSTEP and our client decided to decline the offers and move forward with trial.
