Today, we observe National Grief Awareness Day. This day aims to raise awareness about the various ways grief can manifest in our lives.
Observing National Grief Awareness Day provides an opportunity to acknowledge that everyone deals with loss differently and to cultivate tools to help ourselves and others navigate the grieving process. This day is not limited to any specific type of loss; people coping with the death of a loved one, divorce, job loss, or the death of a pet, among other significant changes, are all encouraged to observe and reflect.
It’s important to understand that grief is multifaceted, as it can often be difficult to comprehend. National Grief Awareness Day sheds light on the complexities of comforting someone who is grieving and aims to break down barriers that hinder empathy, patience, and understanding.
By fostering awareness and promoting open communication about grief, this observance helps create stronger support systems and better care for those in mourning. This day is a reminder to offer compassion and solace to anyone who is grieving, thereby contributing to their healing process and emotional well-being.
As we approach Grief Awareness Day, we want to share some tips from Mind on how you can support a friend or loved one experiencing grief.
Grief is hard to talk about and knowing what to say can be challenging. Connectedness is a crucial aspect of community, and family and friends can prove to be a necessity for folks in times of loss. These small steps can let your loved ones know you’re there for them when they’re struggling with grief.

Experiencing the loss of someone close, like a parent or a spouse, often brings an outpouring of support from those around you. They might bring meals, check in regularly, or send heartfelt sympathy cards. But what happens when the loss is less recognized? The passing of a neighbor, the cancellation of a long-awaited event, or the ending of a meaningful relationship can leave you mourning without acknowledgment from others. This is known as “disenfranchised grief” – and it is just as valid as mourning a death.
We're sharing a grief healing toolkit from NPR to help you navigate these often overlooked forms of loss. This toolkit provides strategies and support to help you heal and find comfort, even when your grief isn't widely recognized. Explore the NPR toolkit to empower yourself through every form of loss.

August 12 is International Youth Day! As we celebrate the power and potential of young people, we recognize the incredible ways they are harnessing digital resources to make the world a better place. From online activism to innovative tech solutions, youth are leading the charge in using technology to drive social change and global progress.
However, it's crucial to acknowledge the challenges that youth face to their mental health due to the increased use of technology and social media. The pressures of online presence and digital connectivity can lead to stress and anxiety. It is essential to promote a balanced approach to digital engagement, ensuring that while youth leverage technology for good, they also take steps to protect their mental health.
Fostering meaningful relationships with friends, family, and within our communities, both at home and in school, creates a profound sense of belonging. Therefore, our urgent priority is to come together to offer the resources and nurture the environments that enhance opportunities for true connection.
As we strive to strengthen this connectedness and craft lasting solutions that prioritize our mental and emotional well-being, we must emphasize awareness, prevention, and accessibility.

April is National Counseling Awareness Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible work counselors do across the nation. In honor of this month our Chief Operating Officer Maggie Tapp, who is also a mental health clinician, has recorded a video to recognize the importance of counseling professionals. We invite you all to watch and share while taking a moment to celebrate the powerful impact counseling has in our lives.
These professionals dedicate their lives to supporting, uplifting, and empowering individuals, families, and communities through some of their most challenging times. These team members provide hope when things feel hopeless and help us all find more peace and joy in life. This month, we not only highlight the vital role counselors play in our mental health and well-being but also encourage everyone to acknowledge and appreciate their hard work and commitment.
A huge THANK YOU to all of our counselors and the counselors in our communities who dedicate their lives to guiding, supporting, and empowering others. The impact you have on your community can not be understated! 💖
