This Sunday do not forget to replace your smoke alarm batteries. It is also a good time to check the dates on the detectors. Smoke alarms should be replaced 10 years from the date of manufacture. Combo smoke/CO alarms should be replaced after 5-7 years (depending on the model).

October is Fire Prevention Month! Our crews have been out and about this month visiting various schools discussing fire safety. The goal of Fire Prevention Month (and week October 8th - 14th) is to raise fire safety awareness and help protect homes and families. In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) named the second week of October Fire Prevention Week in commemoration of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.

At 18:48 tonight Stallings Fire Department along with Matthews Fire & EMS and Wesley Chapel Fire Department we’re alerted for a possible structure fire with 1 person trapped. Dispatch advised homeowner was bedridden and the house was filling with smoke. Prior to fire department arrival Stallings NC Police we’re on scene and we’re able to locate the patient and carry the person out to safety. The smoke was a result of food left on the stove with no fire or damage. The homeowner was alerted as a result of a working smoke detector.

This shows how all emergency services work as one and put there own lives at risk. The Stallings Officers did not know if the house was on fire but did everything they could to locate and bring the person to safety.

Great job Stallings PD
