Little brother wanted to join in too! 😍
What an exciting moment!
Just a couple weeks ago, this student struggled with one-syllable words and would often feel defeated during the sessions. Today, he read two-syllable words with ease and confidence! All students need are the tools to help them succeed!
A gift you can give your students is teaching them syllable patterns early on. Syllable patterns tell us what the vowels say, one of the trickiest parts of English! From there, students can learn how to divide words into syllables, identify the syllable pattern in each one, and read words that may have at once felt intimidating.
Seeing students light up when they read is one of the best feelings in the world. We love to see students win, big or small!
What a difference a year can make!
We’re back with another amazing opportunity thanks to ! Most organizations charge thousands for this type of training, but provides scholarships making it completely free! If you are passionate about children and reading, this is for you. Dm or email for more info!
He could not wait to read Pete the Cat today!
When you use your b-checker and it checks out >> 💪🏾💪🏾
Thankful.

100% of our other kindergarten friends made progress with letter sounds and letter ID!
Can’t wait to share results from some of our older students!
Letter recognition is a fundamental part of learning how to read.
Some students could not yet identify any letters during their pre-assessment, but after five weeks of tutoring (and for some even less), tremendous growth is being made! So excited for these kiddos and proud of their hard work!
Does your child reverse their b and d when reading or writing? Teach them the b-checker (for right-handed students) or d-checker (for left-handed students )!
For the b-checker, have the student use their non-dominate hand and hold it against the letter (b/d) they are reading or writing. If it fits in their hand, as shown in the picture, then it’s a b! If it doesn’t, the student knows it’s a d.
For the d-checker, have the student use their non-dominate hand to see if the letter fits. If it does, it’s a d! If it doesn’t, they know it’s a b.
Only teach the b-checker (right-handed) or d-checker (left-handed) NOT both.
A good way for the student to remember which hand to use for the b/d checker is to tell them the hand they write with already has a job (writing) and is busy. Their other hand is available and gets to be the checker!
Blending drills are so important!
When students practice isolating sounds to create words (especially nonsense words) they learn to build their decoding skills instead of relying on memorization. This creates strong readers!
NT&C is working to provide resources to parents and caregivers to support reading at home. Feel free to reach out for more info!
Today was a C.L.O.V.E.R kind of day!
85% of words in the English language follow one of these six syllable patterns:
C- closed
L- consonant+LE
O- open
V- vowel team
E- magic e (or silent e)
R- r-controlled
Fun to teach and fun to learn!
Congratulations ! What a huge success!
Did you know?
In the OG approach, “red words” are words that are not “fair.” Red words cannot be sounded out phonetically, nor do they follow any specific phonemic rule. It is imperative students can recognize red words because they are in so much of the text they read!
Tutors aren’t the only ones with something to teach. Jenn taught her student about syllables and her student taught her yoga. Seems like a fair trade to me! 😂
Cynthia is such an AMAZING tutor! She always meets her students where they are, literally. 😂
It’s the smile for me! 😍The kiddos are loving this book!
