LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES. Yesterday, we had a few special visitors to our WST Lisle, IL facility: Nancy Coleman, Executive Director of the Alignment Collaborative for Education in IL, and Terry Stroh, Director of CTE for Kane County! They joined WST Training and Development Manager Beth Bayless, SHRM-CP, PHR and our two high school interns, Vinny and Nathan, who are completing their 60-hour internship in Lisle this week.

Vinny and Nathan were connected with WST through the Alignment Collaborative for Education. These experiences are great for high school students to explore career pathways! Vinny and Nathan spent time with many different department teams - parts, service / shop, technology, and even got some Deere training. Partnerships like this one that blend education and business are essential to building our next gen workforce.

After 17 years, this cicada finally found a good mate. 🚜🪳

THIS TRAILER HAS A STORY. WST Founder Rich Benck's trailer is hitting the road once again.

We built this Wagon on Rich's trailer with a purpose of gathering with customers - a nod to Rich's favorite part of the construction industry: THE CUSTOMER.

Rich started the business in 1962 with two technicians and a pickup truck of used tractor parts on the 'WEST SIDE' of Chicago. Fast forward 60 years, West Side Tractor has grown to a third-generation business serving customers across Illinois and Indiana (and even some far beyond our Midwest roots).

Change is inevitable over six decades. From John Deere products - which started with a handful and now includes almost 200 construction models - to facilities, to people (from 3 to 300 employees). But, the family business philosophy remains the same. First and always, take care of the customer.

Jobsite to jobsite, meal to meal, conversation to conversation... belly up to the West Side Wagon!

World Baseball Academy is a homegrown 501c3 nonprofit who owns and operates the ASH Centre Sports Facility in Fort Wayne, Indiana. WBA serves over 5,000 young people annually in their programs, providing the community an array of services focused on using the platform of baseball as a tool to develop young leaders.

***40 YEARS!*** Please join us in congratulating Joe Sawitoski on 40 years with West Side Tractor! After graduating from WyoTech, Joe began his career with WST in May of 1984 as a shop technician at the Naperville location. Joe grew within the company, with roles as the night shift foreman to service manager. In 2008, WST opened our fifth IL location in Rockdale, IL. Joe was presented the opportunity and challenge to build that service dept from the ground up. Sixteen years later, Joe is still going strong in the Service Manager role at the Rockdale location.

Forty years with one organization is an amazing display of dedication, resiliency, and most of all, loyalty, not only to the company but to the teams Joe has led over the years and the individuals and customers around him. What a legacy! Congratulations Joe!

NEXT GEN. Recruiting the next gen workforce takes a commitment from all of us in the construction industry to move the needle. Just this week alone, we have West Side Tractor Sales Co. team members supporting events across both states. Today, we were at the:
- Alignment Collaborative CTE Job Fair in Elgin, IL (over 800 students attend from 3 different school districts!),
- Equipment Operation Week at the Work IN Roads Frankfort HS Sandbox in Frankfort, IN,
-and at Ivy Tech Community College's Annual Auto Skills program in Terre Haute, IN (135 students participate).

It's National Work Zone Awareness Week (April 15 - 19)! National Work Zone Awareness Week (NWZAW) is an annual spring campaign held at the start of construction season to encourage safe driving through highway work zones. These zones are not only places of construction but also where lives intersect - from workers diligently carrying out their tasks (like our West Side field technicians) to motorists navigating through temporary lanes and barriers. It's a time to understand the significance of cautious driving, adherence to speed limits, and heightened awareness of surroundings. The goal is to minimize accidents, injuries, and fatalities, creating an environment where both workers and drivers can navigate the roads safely and confidently. While this national awareness campaign is one week, these are safety expectations we should be following every day on the road.

Our West Side Tractor Sales Co. field teams can be found on jobsites across Illinois and Indiana any day, any time. The photo below is an example of environments that our teams work in - early mornings or late nights limiting visibility with variables like precipitation - on the side of a road with traffic buzzing by. Let's all remember how very important it is to keep not only our West Side and RCE Equipment Solutions co-workers SAFE, but also the many other construction workers that build and support the infrastructure we rely on.
