Join us in wishing our beloved Operations Manager, Katie Angel, a very happy birthday! 🎉 Katie has worked as an accomplished producer, stage manager, director, and performer, and we are continuously grateful for everything she brings to the Dance Kaleidoscope team! Here’s to another year of her incredible passion and talent!
Last week, Executive Director Kim Gutfreund and Artistic Director Joshua Blake Carter attended the Midwest Arts XPO downtown! This inspiring conference fosters innovation, education, and advocacy in the performing arts across the central U.S. Our dancers also took the stage Tuesday night, performing selections from our repertoire—continuing to shine and share our artistry!💃🌟
Sean Aaron Carmon speaks on his process in creating the Little Boy solo in his work “hiFi,” which he choreographed on Dance Kaleidoscope:
“I created the solo on myself as a stark contrast to the opening sections of ‘hiFi.’ I rarely choreograph on myself anymore as my physicality has become more limited with age and a lack of maintenance. But those exact qualities, coupled with it being performed by one of the newest and the youngest members of DK, Jonathan Cubides, made for a fantastic juxtaposition.”
“For me, it was a desire to feel as good in my body as I once did while touring and performing. For Jonathan, who is only just beginning to scratch the surface of his immense artistic potential, I placed physical limitations on how he could express himself and watched as he interpreted those movements as a young dancer, with boundless energy and limitless potential, through the lens of longing. The fascinating results will be seen onstage in October…” You won’t want to miss this performance! Get your season tickets today!
