SOBI | SOBI Conference Ortho-Bionomy helps people break the cycle of pain – without creating pain. Sometimes the body’s natural ability to remain balanced is short-circuited by stress, injury, accident, improper posture, emotional experiences or overtaxing the body’s limits.
HI Everyone,
As not all of you are SOBI members you might not be aware that the bi-annual conference for the Society of Ortho-Bionomy International®️ is coming up starting Thursday October 19th through Sunday October 22nd.
First thing to know is that it is virtual as well as live. Everyone who registers for the conference gets access from now and 3 months after to all the presentations as well as access to ongoing interactions with other Ortho-Bionomy® enthusiasts on the Whova platform!
I highly recommend the experience, here’s why:
- What is presented at conference doesn’t necessarily end up in a classroom opportunity. These are often snapshots of ingenuity developed in practice.
- Get to know other instructors and what they have to offer
- Get a broader sense of the Ortho-Bionomy community
- See innovations and deeper applications of the work
- Visit with out of town students on the Whova platform
- Pair up or group up and experience the conference within your own community and peeps :)
- Review and practice by watching the presentations again, and again, and again for up to 3 months ;)
- 16 SOBI credits!

We would love to see you there!

Here's a reminder for today's event.
This does include a one hour break between 4:00 and 5:00 ET.
SOBI | General E-Bulletin We will focus on LGBTQ+ terminology and gender neutral pronouns: what they are, why they’re important, and how to use them. The first half will cover information on gender terms and how we now have widely used common language to discuss these topics.

For a long time, my Family Constellations work with clients took us deep into the ancestral past to find the brokenness and search for possible repair and reconciliation that would benefit the client in the present. We were able to see patterns and fractals from the distant past that the client encountered in their conception and childhood that became entanglements in their efforts to survive and belong.
Lately, I find we can see and feel how the past is still present by looking more closely at a client’s family and childhood. Having spent so much time in the landscape of the distant past, I find I can help the client see generations of trauma, suffering and disconnection in the fundamental dynamics of their family without losing our sense how the ancient past is still systemically present.
In these sessions it feels like the resolutions that benefit the client are even more essential and supportive, particularly how they land in our physiology where our deepest survival needs reside. I see a more generous capacity to respect their parents and ancestors and have genuine gratitude for their lives. Finally, we experience systemic repairs to the family that supports movement into healthy adulthood for the client.

Jess Albertine Lemmertz (she/her) presents a two-part dive into gender terms and LGBTQ+ inclusion.
We will focus on LGBTQ+ terminology and gender neutral pronouns: what they are, why they’re important, and how to use them. The first half will cover information on gender terms and how we now have widely used common language to discuss these topics.
We’ll look at how addressing your underlying thought process and understanding of gender automatically leads to an easier basis of communication. In the second half we will practice with a few experiential activities to help you gain fluency using this language about people around you.
We’ll close with plenty of time for questions, so if you’ve ever had a gender/s*xuality question you’ve wanted to ask, now is the time.
Some of the information we’ll explore includes:
What do all the abbreviations mean?
What are the differences between biological s*x, s*xual orientation, gender identity, and expression?
How can English pronouns be gender neutral?
How do we safely refer to the pre-transition past of a transgender person's life?
Join us to expand your view on gender so that you can welcome anyone into your practice in a warm and safe manner. Please feel free bring others along if they are open to learning.
Jess Albertine Lemmertz is a certified Alexander Technique (AT) teacher based in the Denver area, with a background in the performing arts, disability, and LGBTQ+ communities. Originally a flute player and composer, she worked with AT for 10 years to help with her own medical issues before studying to become a teacher. Jess loves to help students work toward movement ease with a commitment to inclusivity, body positivity, and self-ownership. She has also taught numerous workshops on LGBTQ+ inclusivity in Alexander Technique. In addition to teaching at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, she maintains a private teaching practice, Open Mind AT, in Highlands Ranch, CO.

🔈 PROPRIOCEPTION
Physiologically, posture and balance are a result of the interaction of a number of sensory feedbacks and the resulting muscular responses. The sensory feedback comes from proprioceptors. The proprioceptors detect any changes in movement or position and any changes in tension, or force, within the body. They are found in all nerve endings of the joints, muscles, and tendons.
1. Pressure sensors in the soles of the feet and proprioceptors in the ankle joints detect the proportion of weight distributed between left and right and between the balls and heels of the feet.
2. The vestibular apparatus of the ears can detect any change in equilibrium, even before it occurs, and send messages to the brain.
3. The eyes detect a level horizon and feedback to the brain causes postural adjustment to try to keep the eyes parallel with that horizon.
4. Neurological structures in muscle and tendon tissue (the muscle spindles and Golgi tendon organs - which are also types of proprioceptors) detect changes in muscle tensions and the rate of that change.
