Indiana private school vouchers hit record with 70,000 students, a half-billion dollar cost Enrollment in Indianas private-school voucher program surged to 70,095 students in 2023-24. Thats a 31 percent increase compared to the previous year the largest ever jump in a single year.

IDOE makes changes to some requirements for controversial literacy endorsement The Indiana Department of Education is making changes to a new literacy endorsement after educators spoke out against the requirements. The department said it plans to offer more flexible training options, and it has adjusted which teachers will be required to get the endorsement.

Today, in five synchronized events across the country, the AFT celebrated the unprecedented milestone of giving out more than 10 million brand-new free books at schools, community centers, faith-based institutions and union halls over the last decade to help children discover the joy of reading.

The achievement, accomplished together with First Book, is not just about the books themselves; this partnership has stoked a love of learning and built lasting bonds in cities and towns across the country.

We're grateful for our members, leaders and volunteers who helped make today possible, and for all the students and families who joined our celebrations!
