New parents, we see you…
"What if we held the mother first? • What if we held her so much that she could breathe out those worries—the ones wrapping those tight circles in her mind? • What if we asked her, how are you really doing? • And what if we held space for the answer—whatever it might be? • What if we listened? • What if we gifted her with our own stories; our own truths? • What if she listened? • What if we told her we knew it was hard because we’ve walked her walk? • What if we weren’t so quick to forget? • What if we told her that we get it and that in all of that hard, you are doing so very well? • What if we did that before we held the baby? • And what if, in all of that space, she felt ready for us to hold the baby—because she felt held herself?"
Thank you for such beautiful and wise words 🤎🤎
We would like to congratulate Dr. Erin Weaver on officially obtaining her Health Service Provider of Psychology (HSPP) designation and is now an independently licensed psychologist! Congratulations Dr. Weaver!!!
Proud to be participating in the Climb Out of the Darkness event at the Village of West Clay in Carmel to raise awareness about perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.

The Minority Stress Model describes the stress process that includes prejudice as well as expectations of rejection, and a need to concealing one's identity to cope. These environmental stressors cause significant stress, which ultimately affects physical and mental health outcomes.
"A strong correlation may be drawn between (a) minority stress theory, which underscores stress processes (experience of prejudice, expectations of rejection, internalized homophobia) and ameliorative coping processes (Meyer, 2003); and (b) a greater likelihood for psychological distress and physical health problems among gay and bis*xual men and other s*xual minority populations."

The minority stress perspective Insight into the critical application and evaluation of theory on the impact of homophobia and correlates of HIV risk among gay/bis*xual men and other s*xual minorities.
From Mental Health America: "Le***an, gay, bis*xual, transgender, q***r, questioning (LGBTQ) and other s*xual minority and gender diverse populations face unique challenges from their non-LGBTQ counterparts. Most LGBTQ individuals are incredibly resilient and will thrive in the face of adversity, with the help of supportive families, communities and peers. However, they are also at particular risk for experiencing shame, fear, discrimination and adverse and traumatic events."
