BioMama Birth

Birth Doula Services, Photography, Placenta Encapsulation, and Postpartum Doula Services I hold birth doula certification through DONA International.

As a doula my goal is to fully support each family to confidently and peacefully attain the birth and postpartum experience they want to have. My postpartum doula training is through CAPPA and I recertify yearly with OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens training for placenta encapsulation services. I am currently accepting new clients for birth and postpartum doula services and placenta encapsulation and can also offer referrals to local services for pregnant women and new families.

Amazon Verified Review 4/5 ⭐️

Package originally arrived late, but consistently sparks joy. This model just the cutest, but one star withheld for common complaints of this product after 2 years of use. A high pitched scream emits from it when attempting to leave the park or when it is provided with apples not cut in exactly the correct manner. Otherwise can’t recommend enough, this is our second model and we adore both of them.

One of the common questions I hear about ring-slings is: how long can you use them? Well; for the most part however long the wearer is comfortable using it and the weight of baby is within manufacturer recommended limits.

This is us today; I’m completely comfortable using my ring sling for quick ups. My son is almost 2 and a big boy at around 35lbs. The sling is a Girasol light rainbow wrap conversion.

It solves toddler problems like not wanting to leave the playplace because my snuggly boy loves his ups. It melts my heart because he still loves arms in and cuddling up!

Another question I hear a lot is about sizing a RS. This RS is 2m long or what many people would call about a medium. Even with a large toddler the tail (free swinging fabric when worn) comes to my knee, when wearing a newborn the tail comes to about mid calf. For reference I am 5’2” and a 2X in most clothing. I love that RS are plus-friendly and adaptable between caregivers.

It’s Breastfeeding week/month; it’s that time again folks and it’s always a little bittersweet for me personally. Telling our story will always taste a little sour in my mouth even though it ends with happy healthy little humans running around our home.
The bitter and the sour are memories now, but grieving the loss of things dreamed can easily bring tears to my eyes. I wanted to breastfeed; I’m a snuggly person and couldn’t think of anything better than holding and nourishing my children with my body.
I tore myself apart trying to breastfeed my first; through triple-feeding (breastfeeding, supplementing, then pumping), SNS feeding, herbs and oatmeal, breastfeeding support groups, lactation clinic visits, and many weight checks. I couldn’t make enough no matter what I tried; being ‘not enough’ for my child gutted me. I was never diagnosed with any cause and walking through the doula and mom world for years afterwards I could see (and sometimes hear) the reproach upon telling my story of only making it 4 months... should have tried harder, if you had just..., maybe next time...
Well, it didn’t work next time either... five years later I was a well-versed lactation professional, I did “all the things”, I saw more LCs, and I still had to self-diagnose insufficient glandular tissue (IGT). I fed my second baby at the breast for 10 months with SNS supplementation; that system is a fickle bitch. There were many tears and spilled milk and kinked tubes and swear words. My nursing bras all have adhesive stuck to the inside because I used tape to attach the SNS tubing to my breasts over and over again. It was not ideal, but it was ours and my son grew and my milk was part of that.
What’s the takeaway, do I say that it made me a better lactation professional? Maybe... Would I exchange all that heartache for leaky milk-filled breasts that my kids had looked to for food and comfort... yep, in a heartbeat... maybe in another 5 years I’ll say no 🤷🏼‍♀️
I hope my story helps to normalize what is normal for a not insignificant percentage of people. (cont in comments)

I just came off 15 nights of work in a row and wanted to honor how incredibly hard I work to bring postpartum love to my clients.
It has been on my heart for a long time to replace the helix piercing that was removed and lost when I went into H’s surgical birth 6+ years ago.
Bodies are pretty amazing, y’all! I thought for sure that I would need to get pierced again, but the experts at showed me it was still open and were able to place my new jewelry in the existing piercing! That was NOT comfortable, but they were fast and so professional!
Loving my new bling and feeling reconnected to a familiar form of self-expression.

Two years ago, in the third trimester of my second full term pregnancy, I began to collect colostrum to freeze for my son.

I knew that I had low supply with my first baby and had tried A LOT to make it work with her. I knew it was highly possible I would have issues with supply again.

I had done research level 1 million; cross mama bear protecting her young with huge science nerd and I can research the s**t out of evidence based parenting decisions.

I had doctors run labs and made health shifts before and during pregnancy... I used herbs to support milk during and after pregnancy... I started pumping and using an SNS within days of my son’s birth... we had quite the journey.

This picture though, with an amount of colostrum best measured in ul (microliters), still gives me all the feels. I am so proud of all the hard work that I put into making sure things worked out for the best. Not perfect... no fairytale endings... many tears... but for the best for all of us.
