The brave men and women, who serve their country and as a result, live constantly with the war inside them, exist in a world of chaos. But the turmoil they experience isn’t who they are; the PTSD invades their minds and bodies.
-
War is a dehumanizing effect that combat active duty servicemen & veterans had to go through. We all tell ourselves this is normal. This is what we have to do. We are the good guys. We... just need to survive. So, we put up these barriers, walls, and put our oldselves into a box that hopefully one day we can bring back out. PTSD is never just one traumatic event; at least it isn't for me. It's was a series of events that happened, and that voice put in your head to get you through those nights out in country... is now the voice that leads us into despair. It shouts and questions us of why we are here... questioning why we are alive, questioning why did we make it back... and shouting that we want to go back or at times whispering at night that we shouldn't be here anymore... and those whispers at times can grow in you.
-
I know I'm not alone in this feeling and I know I am not alone in even entertaining the idea maybe we shouldn't be here. I've made an attempt on my life I'm the past, I've been so weak that I didn't know how to ask for help, and YET this was day one stuff we learned in Basic. We fight as a team and as a single unit. Those principles should still be with us. Ask your battle buddy for help, reach out to your guys that you've served with, or reach out to me. I am weak on my own; I know I can't do this alone, but I know now that I do not have to carry this load on my own, I don't have to be yoked to my old transgressions, to my pain, to my despair, I don't have to go through this alone, and neither do you!

If you've read this far and you're suffering do not hesitate to reach out to me or someone you can talk to. We all need help fighting this war, but this is a fight we need to win. Not just for yourself but for those who did not make it home, for your families, for your children, and anyone else you CAN impact in fighting this war. I love you and I can't wait to see you. Happy Veterans day to all my fellow Marines, soldiers, airmen, sailors, and guardsmen.

I wanted to take a moment and spread awareness to an epidemic that is happening here within our heroes. I've seen so many of my own brothers fall but most didn't fall in combat; they fell here on our own soil. Many of us continue to the wars that we left in our dreams. PTSD has been running ramped within our community to the point its killed more of our heroes and my brothers than any other illness or war. So, I urge you. If you know a Veteran that has served over seas in a combat tour. Take the time to check on them. We all fought in hell and too many of us still believe that we are still there. So, when you have the chance check on that Veteran that you know and make sure they are getting the help that they need to get better. We are home and no longer need to live on the battlefield.
