How sensitive is a vibrometer? Can it pick up the response change because of minute changes in a sample’s thickness or mass? The change would result in a very small shift in natural frequency.
This fascinating study demonstrates this exceptionally well using Polytec’s PSV-500 https://www.polytec.com/us/vibrometry/products/full-field-vibrometers/psv-500-scanning-vibrometer. Vibrometry took a quantum leap when Polytec unleashed QTec® technology. Have you tried QTec® yet?

Imagine a world where your smartwatch or Bluetooth earbuds never need charging! Thanks to the power of triboelectric nanogenerators (TENG), that future is within reach. TENGs generate electricity through the "triboelectric effect," where electric charge is created when two different materials come into contact and then separate. These tiny generators have incredible potential for energy harvesting, self-powered sensors, and powering small electronic devices.
In a recent study, researchers achieved a significant breakthrough in TENG-based vibration sensors, boasting a flat frequency response up to nearly 10 kHz! The authors show an example measurement for speech recognition sensor, using Polytec’s CLV-2534 to validate the performance. Find out more about VibroOne https://www.polytec.com/us/vibrometry/products/single-point-vibrometers/vibroone, the successor to CLV-2534.

This is the thrill of research at its best! When biologist Dr. Rex Cocroft from the University of Missouri, vibration measurement expert Vikrant Palan from Polytec, and the film crew first heard the treehopper’s song, the entire team was ecstatic. For the Netflix documentary series “Secret World of Sound,” Polytec's portable vibration measuring device, VibroGo, was used to reveal the previously imperceptible courtship signals of treehoppers. It was a truly remarkable moment!

allows for the precise manipulation of fluids on a sub-millimeter scale, facilitating the creation of compact, efficient, and cost-effective devices for various biological and chemical applications, thanks to the benefits of miniaturization.
This fascinating study tackles a major challenge in the field: how to produce microfluidic devices in a cost-effective and efficient manner. The research, conducted by Professor Tony Jun Huang's group at Duke University, overcomes this hurdle by utilizing 3D printing to create a surface acoustic wave (SAW)-based microfluidic device. These devices were characterized at several megahertz frequencies using the Polytec VibroFlex-Compact https://www.polytec.com/us/vibrometry/products/single-point-vibrometers/vibroflex

Imagine sliding your fingers on a touch display and "feeling" the texture of skin, the roughness of a piece of cloth, or characters in Braille for the visually impaired. Dr. Rebecca Friesen's paper (published while she was Prof. Ed Colgate's student) is an excellent primer for anyone interested in this fascinating field of research. Haptics, described by someone as the "language of the skin," is such a fundamental and intuitive mode of communication that it's astonishing we haven't utilized it more extensively.
is grateful for the opportunity to help characterize the finger on a textured surface using one of our laser Doppler , IVS-500 https://www.polytec.com/us/vibrometry/products/single-point-vibrometers/ivs-500-industrial-vibration-sensor in this case. Our goal was to measure the amplitude, frequency, and damping of the transmitted vibrations. These measurements help define the digital parameters needed to simulate the desired texture. Researchers from Max Planck Institute for Medical Research are pushing the boundaries of devices by combining sound and electric fields to manipulate water-in-oil droplets. This innovative approach integrates (DEP) and , utilizing electric fields and sound waves to move and merge droplets.
In their latest experiment, they aimed to create an acoustic injection system but observed DEP-driven injection instead. They've now proposed a method to identify which mechanism is dominant in these devices.
