MONDAY…this day gives me JOY! My favorite day of the week! So much to do, people to love and treat right, wonderful challenges to consume my day and give it purpose. I am so excited I jumped up early this morning full of JOY to get a chance to play this day. Its not going to be perfect...and there are some matters that deeply trouble and concern me. Yet, isn’t that what makes life meaningful…the difficulties and struggles of each day?

Where do you find joy…even on MONDAY? The more you chase it, the faster it will elude you. Focus on bringing joy, happiness to your co-workers, friends, families. Then joy will find you. Look at this great thought from Martin Luther King, Jr.: “Those who are not looking for happiness are the most likely to find it, because those who are searching forget that the surest way to be happy is to seek happiness for others.”

Don't just seek joy, BE the JOY! Have a meaningful and joyful Monday. It is the only way to start the week right!

Happy Birthday to me! Focusing on the “Happy” and not so much on the birthday. Never been a big birthday celebrator (unlike wife, Diane Theofanis, who celebrates her entire birth-month!)

THIS morning is about other thoughts and priorities;
my granddaughter who took her first step this week, a best friend wife who is fun and wise and has my back, a son in Peru, two newly wed couples learning married life, another wedding in March, intense expert witness prep, blessing of 4 sisters and their families, work team helping me reach the goal line, loving Italian and Greek in-laws compliments of Diane, Riverside family and support team, quitting on 03/09/93 (Whew!), parents John and Enid who did something right, two great ex’s, a family headed for Morocco, nephews and nieces growing stronger despite immense struggles, Starbucks coffee time in the morning.

Stuff like this overshadows a birthday.

Oh, one more thing on my mind this BD: How to play the 4th quarter of life and make the best of it. Still working on that one.

Its Monday and I feel fine! Not gonna comment on the Trump shooting except that Biden is right...It is sick! Congrats Argentina!

Monday Love means time to confess my addiction... to my iPhone. YES, I love my phone and I take it with me everywhere...including the bathroom. (Don’t tell me you don’t!) I am also guilty of wasting time scrolling, falling down that rabbit hole and losing minutes of my life! And I have my phone by my bed...always...and will look at it if I waken during the night, which is every night.

Lookie here! I’m tired of being harassed about my phone love. And feeling guilty after looking at my screen time numbers. And the superior attitudes from you who are not on social media. I like my little screen, OK? Get off my case. 😇

Before you get judging me TOO much, can I remind you of some worthy uses for your phone?

• To send “love texts” to your spouse or significant other.
• Texting encouragement and cheer to someone who really needs it.
• Reminding your kids that they are loved.
• Directions, of course! Gotta love the GPS in your hands.
• Work and efficiency apps
• Travel Apps like AA.com. You know these apps are wonderful.
• Photograph and document critical happenings.
• Grocery shopping list! Enough said!
• Bible App - Always have the Word with me.
• To write Monday Love Facebook posts.

I admit that I'm addicted. I have driven 20 minutes back to the house after forgetting my phone. I even glance at that enticing screen when it could be seen as rude or inattentive (not acceptable! I’m working on it.) But I’m not about to give up my phone or even leave it at home occasionally. There are many more pros than cons.

Tuesday fun at the Houston Apartment Association this morning. The association members are always engaged and fun. “The Resident is NOT the Problem!” is a presentation that challenges the industry conventional wisdom.

MONDAY LOVE! This favorite day of mine starts a great wedding week that ends with the marriage of my step-daughter Jojo Theofanis to my future “favorite" son-in-law, Marvin Urtes. Wedded bliss will be this Saturday and families from New York, Pennsylvania, Missouri, Maryland, Virginia, Arizona, Mexico, and DFW will be in town for the celebration.

My daily advice to Jojo and Marvin... and to ALL of us married and seriously coupled lovers: "Stand close on good days. Stand closer on bad days."

COFFEE SHOPS: Flightpath Coffee House is a hoot and is keeping Austin weird. I like it when I’m the oldest in the room and don’t really fit in. The place gets it name from being in the flightpath of the former Austin Robert Mueller National Airport.

I met a client there today and we both loved the ambience and vibe. A cross between industrial grunge and mid-century mod. Lots of tables inside but all were taken. It was a beautiful afternoon so we set outside in the covered patio. Perfect! The mocha was rich but not too sweet. The walnut scone was excellent. I would rate it a 7. I chased it with a cup of their drip that was better than I expected. I liked the fact you can pour your own cup with a choice of three brews. They offer a good selection of breakfast burritos

Find it in the Hyde Park neighborhood well north of the University of Texas campus. Lots of students it seems but not the chaos of the Guadalupe campus area coffee stops. Three thumbs up. I’ll be back.

Coffee Shops: I always love the buzz I get at Easy Tiger Coffee and Bakery in Austin. Located in the eclectic east side on E. 7th Street, the only issue I have with the place is parking. Yet so many patrons just bike or walk over from nearby residential and businesses. The warehouse like interior has lots of seating but the outside HUGE garden seating area is the big draw on beautiful Austin days. Strong WIFI inside. Did not check the outside seating.

Great coffee, espresso, and A+ pastries and breads. Basic but unique menu for breakfast and lunch. Did I mention full bar, too. Craft beers. And some friendly servers and baristas that work hard to make your drink like you want it. I had a cinnamon twist and a mini Kings Cake in anticipation of Mardi Gras. Could not eat it all! Coffee or stronger, check this place out but try to have some extra time to linger and enjoy the ambience.
