Soldiers assigned to the Pennsylvania National Guard, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, departed Jan. 1, 2024, for a nearly yearlong deployment to Africa to support U.S. Army Europe and Africa and partner forces with security objectives in the region.
Maj. Gen. Mark McCormack, commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division; Brig. Gen. Laura McHugh, deputy adjutant general-Army; Command Sgt. Maj. Shawn Phillips, senior enlisted leader, Penn. National Guard; and other officials greeted Soldiers as they boarded the plane to leave Pennsylvania.
