University of Dallas To Become First College With a Convent for the Nashville Dominican Sisters 01/18/2024

The University of Dallas is proud to be the alma mater of many consecrated men and women, including nine Dominican Sisters of St. Cecilia.

UD is also proud to become the first university with a permanent convent for the Nashville Dominicans.

“We are so grateful to the University of Dallas for its desire to provide a permanent convent on campus for our sisters teaching at UD and Mary Immaculate,” said Sr. Catherine Anne Burleigh, OP, BA ’94, vicaress general for the congregation.

“We know that the presence of religious sisters played an integral part in the founding and early days of the university, and we are humbled to be involved in such a wonderful community that takes seriously the pursuit of truth, wisdom and virtue.”

Hi, pleasure to meet you! 👋🏼 We are the University of Dallas, a small Catholic liberal arts school located in Irving, Texas. We also have a campus in the countryside of Rome, Italy, where students can study abroad for a fall, spring or summer semester. Our students have been rated as some of the happiest students, according to Princeton Review.

Our Core Curriculum embodies our dedication to the pursuit of wisdom, truth, and virtue as the proper and primary ends of education. During their course of study, students read the great works that have shaped Western civilization and discuss these works with their peers in small classes.

At UD, faith is at the center of the student experience. Around 80% of our students are Catholic and make time during the day to attend Mass. While our campus is not tied to one specific religious organization, we have Cistercians, Dominican brothers, and Nashville Dominican sisters as professors and staff on campus. Being Catholic is not a requirement to attend UD, and our campus ministry team is ready to help our students on their faith journey.

Beyond academics, we have NCAA Division III athletic teams. Our student-athletes take on the challenges of a rigorous UD education, which helps them grow in leadership in and outside of the classroom. We also have over 50 different clubs and organizations for students to participate in, so there are plenty of opportunities for students to find their community.

UD has its own unique traditions that you will not find anywhere else. In the fall, students participate in Charity Week, where the junior class chooses local organizations to donate all that was fundraised throughout the week. In the spring, we have a campus-wide celebration of Groundhog that culminates with “Party in the Park:” there is live music, bonfires and food as alumni, staff, faculty, and current students join in this celebration of school pride.

Beginning an education at the University of Dallas is a challenge that builds your character and strengthens skills that will remain with you throughout your career and life. Discover a life well-lived at UD! 🥳
