It’s Friday and that means I treat myself to a nitro from Starbucks. If I did this every day I’d be spending about $1400 annually on this!! It’s more about the anticipation and amplified enjoyment when I save it for Friday. Delayed gratification……What kind of occasional treats do plan and look forward to?
Small steps help us create valuable habits that stack up on the path towards our goals. Consistently making a commitment to yourself and following through, builds your sense of self reliance, trust and empowerment.
Happy Pride Month +
I had so much fun with and on
I was a tad nervous but they made me feel like we were hanging out in my living room chatting. I had been following them since their first episode and LOVE their content and how applicable it is to women in midlife, so I was thrilled when they invited me on! It was exciting to share the path to my private practice www.spencecounselingalliance.com but also slightly daunting sharing something that feels very personal (my English upbringing!!!!). Thank you to those that have reached out to encourage me. Once I got over the cringey ness of listening to myself talk, I certainly felt better.
Reminders that protect your peace, contribute to longevity and mental wellness. Happy New Year!!
Repost from last year and a reminder that the best way to enjoy the holidays is to revisit your boundaries. We lose a lot of our holiday joy in taking on too much, which can leave us feeling stressed, overwhelmed or burdened. Making sure we are setting boundaries during the holidays can be good for maintaining our mental health, staying positive and having well functioning relationships.
Love this passage from Jeff Brown’s book Hearticulations. Growth is painful and we too often want to thwart that growth by telling people what they “should” do instead of holding a space of acceptance for where they are today. This provides them safety for expansive thinking and development.
I always ask clients who they were at age 6. It’s a great start to remembering what you love, where you find joy and how you stand in your own authenticity and power.
Love working with women to reframe the idea that they are “difficult”. Take up space and live as authentically as possible and if others view this as “difficult”, remember that is more a reflection of them, than you.
“In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” John Muir.
So much therapeutic value in getting outside, moving your body and soaking up the gorgeous PNW summer. Connect with your inner peace and strength.
Discomfort is a catalyst for growth. It makes you yearn for something more. It forces you to change, stretch, and adapt. Lean into the possibilities.
Beware of people pleasing. Women and girls are especially socialized to think this is appropriate. It isn’t. It is self betrayal. Create boundaries to maintain your authentic self.

Meditation I use with some clients to
head back into their day after a
therapy session. The transition can be
jarring and this helps smooth re entry.
