Sensory Awarness Skills 06/17/2024

Do you get a vague feeling that you hike past a lot of wildlife without seeing it – the deer hiding in the thicket, the coyote silently watching your every move, or the minutes-old cougar tracks saying she heard you coming? Do you wish you could be as good as those wildlife photographers or famous naturalists who tell stories of countless wildlife encounters that seem unreal?

Sensory Awarness Skills In this post, the author discusses the importance of enhancing sensory awareness in nature to truly connect with the environment. They emphasize the significance of breathing deeply to increase oxy…

Debate intensifies over conservation of PNW’s old-growth forests 12/20/2023

We support and the Biden Administration efforts to protect all that remain. They sequester more carbon per year (due to large DBH girth requiring wide cambium growth) than younger forests, but we also support logging operations using practices because ... we live in a wooden house needing restoration, new trim, etc etc etc....

Debate intensifies over conservation of PNW’s old-growth forests An effort was already underway to revamp the Northwest Forest Plan. Now the Biden administration is calling for preserving all the country's older forests.

Gotta love Tim Noah and his talented, diverse career. Did you know that he and his partner Cyndi Elliott aka Cyndi Soup are restoring an old gravel pit into an environmental learning center with beautiful, artistic, sustainablely designed buildings for people and farm animals? We had them visit Wolf Camp on the last day of summer with a celebratory concert and we hope to do the same this year. Check it out at The Pond Beyond!

One of our great campers is from Kotzebue, Alaska where this documentary is set. Wishing we could go down to Santa Monica and see the release as part of the "All My Relations" indigenous film festival, same name as Matika Wilbur's amazing podcast: http://www.matikawilbur.com/about/

We made a short documentary, and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you.

"One Small Thing" follows the story of one woman revitalizing traditional Iñupiaq tattoos in the small village of Kotzebue, Alaska. Through her work, she discovers how revitalization connects to the original feminist, Sassuma Arnaa.

We’re premiering the first segment of this four part series about traditional Indigenous tattoo revival this Saturday, at 5:30pm, in Santa Monica at JAMS theatre, as part of our first ever “All My Relations Film Festival”. (Link in bio, or visit smcbarrettgallery.com)

I’d be so honored if you’d join us. DM me if you want to come, and I’ll add you to the list.

++++

Special thanks to Holly Mititquq Nordlum, Nikki Wikken, Lydia Agnus, Alysha Nanouk, Walter Gregg and the Kids of Boys and Girls Club in Kotzebue. We love you asnd are honored to share in telling this your story.
