INFLATION AND WAGES. Before becoming a real estate broker, I was a Union Construction Laborer, local 959, for 5 years for a large commercial building contractor, exclusively with brick layers. I left in late 1976. My wage was $9.25 per hour, excluding benefits. Today, I decided to check with the US Bureau of Labor Statistics to see what a laborer would need to make today to have equivalent buying power. I learned it was about $48.00 per hour. However, current average wage for a Union Laborer is $22.00 per hour, excluding benefits. Very illustrative of what is happening to the middle class. THE MIDDLE CLASS IS SLOWLY DISAPPEARING.
I am assuming my presumptions are correct. I am open to correction if need be.
