On Thursday, July 25, 2024, CTED Officer Casey Dale was working near Collins, MS, when he received a call from Troop J dispatcher Wayne White.
White informed Officer Dale that the UMMC Children’s Transport Team ambulance was disabled in Collins and was needing to transport a child to Laurel.
When Officer Dale arrived at the scene, UMMC Nurse Karen Simon and Officer Dale immediately recognized each other from a previous encounter when Dale’s son needed medical care a year prior!
This medical emergency was a matter of life and death, requiring immediate attention for the child. CTED Officer Dale jumped into action and swiftly transported the UMMC Children’s Transport Team in his patrol vehicle from Collins, MS, to the child in Laurel, MS.
The quick response from dispatcher White and the decisive actions of Officer Dale and the UMMC Children’s Transport Team were instrumental in providing life-saving care to the child.
Thank you to Officer Casey Dale and the University of Mississippi Medical Center Children’s Transport Team. Their swift response played a critical role in saving this child’s life and making Mississippi a safer place.

On Saturday several of our team members across MCES were able to participate in the 2024 National EMS Memorial Service Moving Procession in Jackson at the State Capitol. The memorial is moving through several states on the way to Arlington, Virginia. The memorial honored 36 members of the EMS community who died in the line of duty, four of which were from Mississippi. These included Robbie Pearson of Pafford EMS (father of one our own Chris Pearson), Mack McCann of AAA Ambulance Service, John Crowe of Acadian Ambulance Service, and Mary “Katie” Pipkins of ASAP EMS.
We are grateful to everyone who helped to honor our fallen colleagues across our EMS industry.
Take a deep dive with Matt and Will into the use of fibrinolytics in the emergent setting on this new Blue Crew Medicine podcast: Clot Busting - Fibrinolytics Part 1. This episode covers some history and considerations when using and discussing fibrinolytic use in patients. They also take an in-depth look at the contraindications and why they are what they are.
Clot Busting - Fibrinolyticis Part 1 primarily focuses on the current most common use of fibrinolytics with strokes. Matt and Will discuss what to consider and watch for after using one of these medications.
This is part 1 of 2 on fibrinolytic use.
