Coastal Plained Barrels
A woodcraft shop based on the repurposing of oak bourbon barrels into tasteful rustic accents
It was an absolute blast to make to make this propane fire pit! This was a new design to me and gave me more than a fair share of hurdles to overcome but we managed and made the customer a show stopper of a product!
One of the more difficult but most rewarding hurdles was convincing my little laser that it could in fact engrave my logo onto stainless steel for the final little touch
An awesome gift I was asked to make for a retiring Colonel! The inside is completely sealed and coated with epoxy resin to prevent leaks and to retain ice. One whiskey barrel is sized perfectly for a a keg and small CO2 canister, or two pony kegs which is what the customer requested, hence the two taps!
Well over due for an update, but don't worry I have so many pictures to show you!
First, this is a recent table a customer ordered for his brothers Christmas gift. He wanted the New Holland farm implement logo and his brothers farm name engraved. Not only could we do that, but we were able to write the farm name out in the New Holland companies font!
The table was finished in Tung oil which not only protects, but does just a phenomenal job bringing out the oaks natural beauty
Just an FYI, it's not too early to start making those Christmas orders!
What time is it?! That's right! Time for my occasional update post!!!
I swear one day I will get better at making regular posts, I promise!
The latest batch of wall tables is complete and ready to move on to their new homes!
A few more great looking pieces that were shipped out this week!
This table probably looks familiar. Like the post right before this one familiar. It's actually the twin table for the twin brother of my customer! He liked his so much he needed his brother to have one as well! I added a little extra marking to the back to commemorate the table.
Building a good relationship with customers is honestly one of my favorite parts of running a shop and having repeat business like this is a reassurance that I'm doing it right!
If you know someone or a business that is looking for that crazy awesome piece to really finish a room, by all means drop my name! I would love to craft an absolutely unique experience that wows your guests!
This table turned out great and is on the way to the state of Missouri as we speak!
The latest and Greatest to come from the work bench! A hand crafted cutout of NC state with a little engraving! Perfect for a family name or to commemorate the first Christmas in a new home.
If you like it and need to have it, message me!
Two posts in one week??? I can't believe it myself!
While I was working I saw the laser, sitting in the corner, looking all smug and decided it needed to earn it's keep!
If you or someone you know needs one of these in their life let me know!
This should keep me busy for a while!
Let me know if you want something special created for this holiday season!
And be on the lookout for new items coming soon!
Super excited with how these most recent table builds came out for another business local to me!
If you're in the area I highly recommend stopping and checking out the Mike's Farm NC Products Barn. It's a massive building dedicated to selling foods and handmade goods that are sourced locally in the state, from the Outer Banks all the way to the mountains.
Pleased as punch to be asked to make a very special retirement gift!
The cooler stand is made from cedar, giving it great resistance to outdoor weather, stained in Dark Chestnut, and then given multiple coats of polyurethane to seal everything up and provide a smooth finish. Laser engraving was done to commemorate the years of service this gentleman dedicated.
An absolutely stunning pair of wall tables, freshly finished and off to their home in California!
Finally finished this customers awesome barrel cooler!
Epoxy resin was used to coat and seal the inside and give it a sweet wet look.
Casters and a drain were added for ease of use. The top is also completely removable for easy access to drinks and ice.
And the piece that really completes the unit was a tap for a mini-keg!
Tell me what's more American than muscle cars and fine bourbon. Go ahead, I'll wait.
Happy 4th everyone! Be safe
New orders coming in almost on the daily now! Here are a few pictures of recent activities in the shop.
I am always accepting new orders and I love the challenge of making something completely unique, so do not be afraid to reach out and get your custom piece!
Hey look, not something made from a barrel!
Also, who would of thought there was a demand for coolers that are slightly elevated
Super excited to be able to help finish a very special anniversary gift.
This was a custom cutting board made from walnut and given an awesome tide feature, poured in epoxy resin.
If you are on the prowl for some local epoxy resin works I highly recommend checking out Walnut Hills Studio, he does some outstanding work!
Another set of tables ready to go to their new owner!
I loved the rough sawn look of that lower shelf so much that I just could not bring myself to sand it smooth
A little different from what I normally post about, which is normally my awesome products and services that you should totally buy!
Today I made a tool, or jig, or adapter. Whatever you want to call it. I deemed it necessary in order to continue providing fast, quality work. I reached a hurdle I needed to get over and this looked like the best option. Does it exist in a store and could I have bought it? Absolutely! There's like 50 different versions and they all specialize in their own way. Rather than buy, I looked around to see what I already had and I put the old noodle to work.
I learned a new process. I learned the answer to a new equation. I... learned to keep more band-aids on stand by.
I enjoyed learning this new thing (not so much the band-aid part), and it gave me one of those 'ah-ha' moments that one of the many points of life is to learn new things all the time. At least one thing a day, hopefully because you wanted to learn it and not because someone shared too much personal information.
The point to this long rant is: Check out this awesome router sled I made out of scraps I had laying around!! Is it cool or what?!
For those of you who don't know what this tool does I will try to explain quickly and simply. It allows me flatten the surface or a wide object evenly and much faster than by hand or by sanding.
Get at me for those custom orders! Fathers day is coming up!
Another happy customer that wanted a Father's Day gift for someone special. She said he likes ci**rs, whiskey, and Jeep. I think we managed to get him the trifecta!
It's never too early to start doing some Father's Day shopping at Coastal Plained Barrels!
A late night but another table ready to be packaged and shipped first thing in the morning!
Message me for your own custom design!
Rearranged a few things today in my booth, and added some much needed shelving on the left and back walls! Also dropped of a few bags of wood smoking chips and various styled cigar holders for the aficionados
Slowly but surely it's looking like a well built booth. Next up is a big bolster to inventory to fill all the space I opened today!
If you're in the local area and want to see what I have first hand stop by Antique 2 Chic Vendor Market! They also carry a wide variety of amazing household additions to fit everyone's tastes!
Also last week I decided to make the space my own and walled in my booth with lots of reclaimed wood and barn siding and very little sleep! Lots of coffee is all that is needed to get the creative juices flowing in the ol' noodle.
The wood on the left hand wall used to be fence planks that were lovingly donated by the wind and my neighbors. However it was too rotted in some spots to mount vertically so some quick 45 degree cuts were made on the good sections to create the chevron wall you now see.
Now all I need is some shelving and a boat load of more product!
As we can all already tell pretty clearly, I suck at updating Facebook with posts.
Now, with that bit of business out of the way I can carry on with the news of of happenings over the last month! I set out to come up with a logo for the company and I believe we have a winner. At least I hope it's a winner, I already bought business cards with it plastered on there.
I also just opened an indoor vender location in town, so if you're local by all means stop by!
A little modification made to our bee table. We wanted a little more stability and a little more storage so I added another barrel head as a shelf and engraved it to match the theme of the table!
Just wrapped up this custom engraved table for a customer!
Did I not mention this?? We also offer personalized engravings with our super fancy laser!
