Is Your Website Still Telling the Right Story?

Think of your website as a window to your business. It's where potential customers go to learn about what you offer, get in touch, and decide if they're a good fit. But just like any window, your website needs to be kept clean and updated to stay fresh and inviting.

Here's why keeping your website content current is crucial:

✔️ Fresh Content: Regularly updating your website with new blog posts, articles, or product information keeps your website engaging and relevant to visitors.
✔️ SEO Boost: Updated content helps improve your website's search engine rankings, making it easier for people to find you online.
✔️ Customer Engagement: Fresh content shows you're active, informed, and committed to providing value to your customers.

Social Media Amplification:

Don't just create great website content, share it! Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter are excellent tools to extend your reach and promote your website's content.

Remember: Your website is a valuable asset. Invest time and effort in keeping your content fresh and using social media to amplify its reach. Your business will thank you for it!

DON'T BE SCAMMED - Are you a website owner? Chances are, you've received email like this - a big warning that your domain name is about to expire, or already has. It's created to force you into a knee jerk reaction to click that pretty blue button. Don't.

This particular email is actually pretty convincing. The English is perfectly written. No mistakes. No telltale signs of copy/pasted logos, or claims to a particular company. At first glance, it looks legit.

But, the companies I deal with, and my clients have registered with, have specific business names, and their emails are obvious. Their logos are prominent. I also know where my domain, and all of my client's domains are purchased from. I have a list I can check.

I also right clicked on the email sender to see what the actual email address was. Something about online transcriptions. That's not domain related. So, the first red flag.

It was sent to an email address I use specifically for junk mail. Second red flag.

Lastly, they provide a written link, in case all the other /hidden/ links don't work. That written link goes to a .hk address. That's Hong Kong. None of my registrars are in China.

Before you immediately click on ANY email link, think things through. In fact, try and make it a policy to never click a link in an email. If you get something from your bank, for example, instead of clicking the link to go to your account, go to your browser and type in the address yourself.

You'll save yourself a whole heap of trouble!

(What were these scammers trying to accomplish? Taking control of my domain name, and then holding it hostage for me to pay to get it back, or worse, stealing my credit/debit information.)

The web design/website industry is fraught with sheisters. People who slap some kind of page together with no thought as to how it sells to the consumer. People who churn out bloated garbage content. People who promise to get a business on the "first page of Google". People who disappear two months into a project. People who disappear after a project. People who steal your domain name or hold a website hostage.

As a web developer who has been in business since the late 90's (1997, before Google!) I can tell you it's a lot to overcome, and worse, to be associated with such lack of professionalism. You would be shocked at the number of calls and emails I get from people who need to be rescued from these hacks.

My advice to anyone needing web services is to truly vet them before you spend the first dollar. How long have they been around? Is it their sole source of income? Do they have multiple clients who have been with them for years and years? Are they TOO cheap? Do they offer something more than just a pretty page?

I know I'm more expensive than your cousin's brother's friend, but it's cheaper coming to me first versus being ripped off two or three times beforehand.

Do I Really Need a Website in 2024? - Rusti Boot Creative 05/24/2024

Do you really need a website in 2024. Yes. Yes you do.

In today’s digital landscape, a strong online presence is non-negotiable. Consider this: 93% of consumers use search engines to find local businesses. And a quick poll amongst my network confirms that every single one uses search engines (not social media) to search for both products and services. For local businesses, especially those relying on their local community, this statistic speaks volumes.

Do I really need a website? - Tiny Sites 05/24/2024

Two articles out this week on the same topic, but for different roles in business. If your business is micro sized, or you're just starting out, a Tiny Site might be the solution for you. Depending on Facebook alone isn't enough because you're making it harder for folks who really want to do business with you. You need to be found in Google (or Bing/Yahoo/Etc) when people are searching locally for your services.

Do I really need a website? - Tiny Sites Remember that recent storm that ripped through Texas? I needed a tree trimmer—fast. At the same time, my horse came down with founder, and I desperately needed an equine chiropractor. A quick Google search led me to a local tree trimmer. Finding a chiropractor, however, proved impossible. There we...

IS FACEBOOK ENOUGH?

It's never good to rely on social media in place of a website to grow your business. When a potential customer searches Google for your type of business, they'll never find you. The only way that's possible is if they already know your business name. You can't rely on that.

If your business depends on local customers, a website is a must. Go BEYOND the Like button. Level up and own your own space. We build websites that get results, are affordable, and hassle-free.

New Business Resources – Tiny Sites 04/23/2024

I've been very busy with blog posts this week over on Tiny Sites (https://tinysites.rustiboot.com) on how to quickly, easily, and affordably open a new small business. Trying to simplify the nitty gritty of the paperwork the state requires, and explaining in simple terms the difference between an LLC and a DBA, and which type of business requires which. It's been a brain buster.

The goal is to keep small and micro businesses from being overwhelmed or getting ripped off by companies who should know better.

Facebook is not a Website - Rusti Boot Creative 08/16/2022

More and more often, small and micro-sized businesses are using Facebook as their only means to promote their businesses. As a consumer of those businesses, and a web developer, let me tell you why this doesn't help your business grow. First, and foremost, people searching Google will NEVER find you.

Facebook is not a Website - Rusti Boot Creative Getting the most out of Facebook starts with recognizing what it is. Using it in place of a website can be devastating.
