Have you ever questioned if your milk is ok for baby to have – maybe you've been sick, or had too much coffee, etc?

Pump, label and store... until you can find out more!

I'm not sure about you, but coffee is like a hug in a mug. Tea too! ☕ So let's spill the milk on breastfeeding and caffeine...

Caffeine while breastfeeding is usually safe without any effects on your infant, as long as it is in moderation.

The recommendation is under 300mg per day which is about 2-2.5 cups of coffee.

What is your favorite coffee or tea?

National Breastfeeding Month celebrates Indigenous Milk Medicine Week (IMMW) in early August honoring traditional first food practices and the vital role they play in Indigenous health.

This annual week of recognition highlights the cultural relevance and historical significance of these protective practices within Indigenous communities.

Originally known as Native Breastfeeding Week, this observance aims to showcase the diversity of
Native breastfeeding and lactation experiences. It also acknowledges the unique challenges faced by
Native and Indigenous milk medicine carriers and their families.

Furthermore, the week honors and
supports the Milk Medicine journeys of individuals and communities across Turtle Island (the name for North America) and beyond.

As we continue with I want to share a few breastfeeding tips!

🤱 Stay hydrated and nourished! Focus on protein-rich, nutritious meals and snacks, and don’t skip meals! But in all honesty - your milk is perfect even if your diet isn't.

🤱 Take care of your b***s. Practice good breast hygiene, wear comfortable, supportive bras, and swap nursing pads often.

🤱 And you’re not in this alone, seek support, whether you think its needed or not. Ask for help from an IBCLC if you encounter challenges, or even to prepare for what may be coming up, like returning to work. Support isnt limited to an IBCLC either, build your community with friends, family, and other healthcare partitioners (chiropractors, CST, OT, ST, etc.) as needed.

Do you have concerns about staying nourished or general education? Don't hesitate to set up a consult an IBCLC for some additional support!

As we continue with Let’s celebrate with a few breastfeeding tips!

🤱 Feeding on demand is important! Recognizing your baby’s hunger cues, along with frequent feedings throughout the day and night, can help maintain your milk supply.

🤱 Proper latch will make breastfeeding comfortable and efficient for both you and your baby.

🤱 And there isn’t only one breastfeeding position, the most common is cradle/cross cradle, but experiment with different positions to find the one that works best for both of you.

Do you have concerns about your milk supply, proper latch, or positioning? It’s a good idea to consult an IBCLC for some additional support!

Happy World Breastfeeding Week! This year's theme is Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all.

“This year we want to really recognize breastfeeding mums, ensure they are seen and heard, and share relatable human experiences about breastfeeding and the importance of multi-level support.”

Supporting breastfeeding moms can be done in many ways, such as implementing policies and attitudes that value women and breastfeeding, fostering a breastfeeding-friendly healthcare environment, respecting a woman’s autonomy and her right to breastfeed anytime, as well as community support.

Did you know:

- About 44% of infants 0–6 months old are exclusively breastfed.
- Breastmilk can provide half or more of a child’s energy needs between the ages of 6 and 12 months, and one third of energy needs between 12 and 24 months.
- Children and adolescents who were breastfed as babies are less likely to be overweight or obese. Additionally, they perform better on intelligence tests and have higher school attendance.
- Lastly, longer durations of breastfeeding also contribute to the health and well-being of mothers: it reduces the risk of ovarian and breast cancer.

🏃🏻🏃🏽🏃🏿   Mother, former Olympian, and member of the Olympics International Committee Allyson Felix combined her athletics career with caring for her daughter. She said '“It was just kind of an eye-opening experience. I took her everywhere that I was competing, and I kind of was surprised at how hard it was and how much you really had to shoulder on your own.”

🚼 Last year, she initiated plans to establish a nursery for parents at the Paris Olympics. As a result, the Olympics will have a nursery to allow athletes to spend quality time with their young children and provide private space for breastfeeding. 🤱🏻🤱🏽🤱🏿

We applaud the Paris Olympics Committee for providing for the needs of athletes and their children during the Olympic Games.🧡💙💚

You’re doing a hard job, beautifully. 💜

When one feed morphed into the next,
When only my arms would do,
When the wee hours of the morning stretched,
When my trying, which often felt like failing, was genuinely enough.

More than enough, even. I needed to know that is really was as hard as it felt.

So just in case you need to hear it today – you're doing a hard job, beautifully.
