Relaxers are still in!
Key Points for Taking Care of Relaxed Hair
1. Moisturize Regularly
• Use a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week to maintain moisture.
• Apply a leave-in conditioner daily to keep hair hydrated.
2. Avoid Overwashing
• Wash hair no more than once or twice a week to prevent stripping natural oils.
• Use sulfate-free shampoos to minimize dryness.
3. Protective Styling
• Wear protective styles (e.g., braids, buns) to reduce manipulation and breakage.
• Avoid tight hairstyles that can cause tension and breakage at the roots.
4. Heat Protection
• Limit the use of heat styling tools (flat irons, curling irons).
• Always apply a heat protectant before using any heat styling tools.
5. Regular Trims
• Get regular trims every 6-8 weeks to prevent split ends and maintain healthy hair.
6. Protein Treatments
• Incorporate protein treatments every 4-6 weeks to strengthen the hair.
• Balance protein treatments with moisturizing treatments to avoid brittleness.
7. Nighttime Care
• Wrap hair in a silk or satin scarf or use a silk/satin pillowcase to reduce friction and breakage.
• Moisturize ends before bed to keep them hydrated.
8. Scalp Care
• Keep the scalp clean and moisturized to promote healthy hair growth.
Avoid heavy oils and products that can clog the scalp.
9. Minimize Chemical Treatments
• Avoid overlapping relaxer applications on previously relaxed hair to prevent over-processing.
• Consult with a professional stylist for touch-ups and chemical treatments.
10. Healthy Diet and Hydration
• Maintain a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals that promote hair health.
• Drink plenty of water to keep hair hydrated from the inside out.
