This week we want to spotlight Linda.

Linda has been serving our guests by washing the laundry and preparing linen bags for the past nine years. She maintains our laundry facility, hygiene inventory, and always lends a listening ear.

When asked why she volunteers at GIFTS, she responded, 'I felt God lead me here. I enjoy serving our guests and getting to know them. The guests think that I'm here just to serve them, but they've taught me so much as well. I really enjoy it.'

Linda says the lesson that she's learned in this life - you don't need a special skill set or be athletic to make an impact on people's lives, you just need to be available.

And that's what she does, just be available.

Linda, we know you do a lot more than just be available! You give your time, your talents, and your treasures to GIFTS. Thank you for all you do

We didn't plan to make another update so soon, but we can't help it :) We are bursting with gratefulness!

We are now $1150 closer to our matching funds goal of $2000 from Specialty Tools in Beloit! That leaves $850 to be doubled.

And that gets us even closer to our big goal of $5000 for Giving Tuesday.

We had the great pleasure of attending Forward Janesville Annual Dinner. It was a wonderful evening to hear of how Janesville continues to impact each of us, along with these engaging speakers!

Last week we kicked off our Vocational Training Program!

We are so excited Kristin, GIFTS Resource Coordinator, has put into action the program she has worked to develop for our guests.

GIFTS guests will now have the opportunity to enroll in the program that will teach them employment and life skills at the GIFTS Thrift Store.

We are blessed to have such a wonderful partnership with the City of Janesville, WI and the Janesville Police Department.

Thank you to them and all of those in this community who work together for the unsheltered population!

The City Council has proclaimed November 2023 as Homeless Awareness Month in Janesville. This resolution aims to raise awareness of the issues surrounding homelessness and the resources available to help combat them. Earlier this week, the City welcomed Executive Director MaryAnn Raash from GIFTS Men's Shelter to accept the resolution. Executive Director Raash helped illustrate the faces of homelessness in our community, speaking to the background and life experiences of her shelter's guests. The City thanks GIFTS and all its partners for their continued work to support and uplift homeless community members.

The team that plays pickleball together, laughs together!

Yesterday we spent time team building and learning none of us will ever be going to the pickleball Olympics. :)

Thanks to the Janesville YMCA for letting us use the courts!

Thank you to Alliant Energy for the grant to help with the purchase of a new pantry refrigerator! This impacts each and every guest who stays at GIFTS.

We are seeking volunteers to come alongside our GIFTS guests as a Life Recovery Coach. A Life Recovery Coach is an integral and necessary part of guiding a guest to reach their goals and learn to thrive again!

Are you ready to make a difference? As a Coach, you will:

-Establish life goals
-Provide expectations
-Reinforce accountability
-Empower and engage
-Model values
-Create a connection
