Build The Fields - Jasper

Build The Fields - Jasper

Several years ago, the City of Jasper announced that it was going to pursue the feasibility of building a state of the art Sports Complex in our city.

Since that initial announcement, there has been little communication as the status to this project.

BIG MISTAKE, JASPER !!!!

The City of Jasper raised taxes in from its citizens in 2022 to build a new mega sports park.

After accumulating a $27 million surplus, the mayor is now saying NO NEW SPORTS PARK! The city is planning on spending $10 million to renovate the old Memorial Park.

What an injustice to the City of Jasper!!

The old park is in a residential area that has no road infrastructure for traffic. No parking. And no room to grow. Everyone knows this. It will not generate one dime of economic growth for city businesses.

The new park would generate millions of dollars of economic benefits every year to our city through tournaments held every weekend with hundreds of people coming to the games from all over Alabama and other states.

BUT we have leaders with NO vision.

The young people of our city are the very ones who play travel ball. This new sports park is not dead. It will be built with new leadership that has vision for our city.

Build The Fields has nearly 3000 followers in just two months and growing. These people support Jasper building this park.

We will now focus on the city election that is one year away.

The dream of a new sports park is not going to die. City leaders, do not waste this money on Memorial Park.

Also, why choose an engineer from Birmingham when we have a great engineering firm here in Jasper that employs local people?

Jasper must come out of the Dark Ages! That’s why we can’t grow and prosper like cities around us. We have to elect new leaders with vision.

It’s time, Jasper. You can make dust or eat dust. We are tired of eating dust in Jasper and being behind every other city.

Mayor David O’Mary has temporary killed a new mega sports park, but NOT the DREAM. We will build a mega sports park in Jasper.

We can elect a new mayor next year and then build it or it can be built at the Dora/ Sumiton exit on I-22 leaving Jasper behind once again.

REALLY?!?!?!

In 2022, the City of Jasper passed a sales tax increase. Not only did the citizens of Jasper have to pay it, every person that did business in Jasper had to pay it.

Then, they passed the Mayors 4-Point Plan to build the Mega Park ( #1 on the list). Now the mayor is saying NO new Mega Park, he's going to upgrade Memorial Park.

Everyone knows Memorial Park will never be a Mega Sports Park.
It's in a residential area with no infrastructure, no parking and no room for growth! No economic benefits for our local businesses.

What a waste of our money!

This issue is NOT going away. We will carry it all the way to Election Day and elect leaders with a vision for Jasper and our children!

If the park can't be built on Industrial Blvd, there are several more sites available.

Election for city leaders is one year away!

Council Approves Mayor’s 4-Point Plan | City of Jasper, AL 05/21/2024

The Jasper City Council unanimously approved the Mayor's 4-Point Plan. #1 on the list was the development and construction of a spots complex. Well, why not Jasper??? Who decided not to build it after the council approved it? Who killed this project? The people want to know.

1. Development and construction of a sports complex – the development would be planned for property located in the Industrial Blvd - Walker County Lake area. This complex would be city developed, owned, maintained, and operated. " I have spent a lot of my life working in the Parks and Rec field working with tournaments and traveling teams, and this can be a major tourism boost for Jasper if done correctly," said District 5 Councilmember Willie Moore, III. "I am very interested in seeing what ideas the consultant brings to us and once we get the right one for Jasper, we will have the funding to get it built. It's also very important that our youth be able to use the facility during the week. The mayor and I have discussed this, and I know that is his plan as well. This will be a really nice addition to our city.” The vision and scope for the project would include state-of-the-art facilities that would be determined by an independent consultant based on what best fits the area. Preliminary plans have been discussed, but further research will take place regarding the viability and economic impact as well as architectural design and usage plans. This investment is expected to be in the $10-12 million range.

Since that initial announcement, there has been little communication as the status to this project. We are asking that the City of Jasper, council members and mayor take the steps necessary to build a sports complex for Jasper. Not only does a sports complex drive positive impact for the youth of Jasper, but it also has the ability to positively impact our local economy. Jasper is a great place to live, and this Sports Complex would be an added attractor for the young families to make our beloved community their home.
