Everyone has a triangle of physical health, comprising of diet, exercise and sleep. These 3 factors work together to keep our bodies working efficiently. When one aspect is lacking, the triangle becomes off balanced, taking a toll on our health. Of course, everyone's triangle looks different as their individual needs in each category are different (e.g. someone may require more sleep or a specific diet to fit their body's personal needs).
Add an injury into that calculation, and what was a person's normal health triangle is now an imbalanced one as their needs have now changed... Physical therapists are experts of movement and understand the body's multiple phases of healing, and they are here to help! Parkinson Disease is a degenerative disease that effects the brain's ability to control motor function and thought processing, but studies shows that staying active and participating in activities that you enjoy can help slow down that degenerative process. Dr. Lon Egbert, DPT, ATC got his Athletic Training Certification prior to entering PT school and still continues to provide athletic training services, himself, to Wendell High School during the football and wrestling seasons. He enjoys being able to stay involved with the youth and help them overcome injuries and get back out on the field, court, or mat.
In March, we like to celebrate National Athletic Training Month (NATM) with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA).
Athletic trainers are healthcare providers who work in the direction of a physician to provide injury prevention, injury/illness evaluation, diagnosis & treatment (including rehabilitation) and emergency care to those within their scope of practice.
