Embracing the Wisdom of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. “Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all.” - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Today CFHE’s CEO @drleeja reflected on Dr. King’s legacy of justice and peace, and his profound message about the impracticality of violence. Now, more than ever, we must come together as a nation and as a global community. Dr. King’s vision encourages us to stand united, transcending boundaries and differences. Our shared humanity binds us, and it’s in unity that we find strength. Violence, Dr. King affirmed, defeats itself. Its aftermath breeds bitterness and brutality. Choosing the path of nonviolence is not just a practical choice; it is a moral imperative. Dr. King’s words are not just a historical echo; they are a call to action. As individuals and as a society, let’s commit to creating a world where justice prevails, love reigns, and unity flourishes. In doing so, we honor the legacy of a visionary who dared to dream of a better tomorrow. A Call to Action: Educate Yourself: Learn about the experiences of others, understand their struggles, and stand in solidarity. Speak Up: Use your voice to amplify the call for justice, equality, and peace.Initiate conversations that promote understanding and bridge the gaps between individuals. Stand United: Attend events, join organizations, and participate in initiatives that advocate for racial equality and unity. Lead with Love: In your daily interactions, choose love over hatred, empathy over indifference. Be a beacon of light that dispels the darkness of ignorance. The time for change is now.  Visit the link in our BIO to read our CFHE x MLK Impact Statement an essay from our CEO.

Honoring the Legacy of Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. Today, @coalition_equity we reflect on the profound legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., a visionary leader whose commitment to justice and equality reshaped the course of history. In his 1964 Nobel Peace Prize lecture, Dr. King delivered timeless insights on the futility of violence and the transformative power of nonviolence. Let us draw inspiration from his words and continue the journey toward a world shaped by compassion, understanding, and unity. Dr. King emphasized that true peace cannot be achieved through militaristic means. Instead, he advocated for a path of nonviolence, recognizing the destructive nature of violence on both a personal and societal level. He stood against violence, colonialism, racism, and militarism, understanding that the path to lasting harmony lies in nonviolence. “Violence is impractical because it is a descending spiral ending in destruction for all. It is immoral because it seeks to humiliate the opponent rather than win his understanding: it seeks to annihilate rather than convert. Violence is immoral because it thrives on hatred rather than love. It destroys community and makes brotherhood impossible. It leaves society in monologue rather than dialogue.” Dr. King’s philosophy centered on love and understanding as the catalysts for positive change. He believed in the power of dialogue to bridge gaps and create lasting connections, emphasizing the moral imperative to choose love over hatred. The reverberations of violence are profound and far-reaching, leading only to more pain and suffering. Dr. King’s words remind us that the cycle of violence is a self-defeating spiral, and true progress lies in choosing paths that cultivate compassion and justice. Let us honor Martin Luther King Jr. by embodying the principles he championed: nonviolence, equality, and love. Together, we can continue his work towards a world where peace is not just a dream but a reality. Together, we ca

We are bringing Black joy, love and a vibrant honoring of the the history and culture of the Harlem Renaissance this February 17th 2024 through our 3rd annual gala: The Heartstrings! Tickets open this October 2nd. Will you join us as we celebrate the Black revolutionaries of then and now? The Harlem Renaissance. Did You Know? The Savoy Ballroom: Once called the “Heartbeat of Harlem” by renowned Harlem Renaissance poet, Langston Hughes, the Savoy was one of many hot spots located along Lenox Ave. From 1927 to 1958, the Savoy made its mark as the soul of the neighborhood. The racially integrated space was popular from its inception having to, according to a March 1926 article in the New York Times, turn away 2000 people on opening night. People could not wait for a chance to go “Stompin’ at the Savoy”. It became home to Lindy Hoppers and musicians alike. Big band leaders and jazz greats—like Dizzy Gillespie, Chick Webb, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and a teenager named Ella Fitzgerald—all performed at the Savoy during the 1930s. No longer in operation, the Savoy’s cultural and social significance is marked by a commemorative plaque, which was unveiled in 2002. The plague is located on Lenox Avenue between 140th and 141st Streets. #harlem #savoy #harlemrenaissance #heartstrings #langstonhughes

Community Health Tip- Exercise Daily Regular physical activity is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Being physically active can improve your brain health, help manage weight, reduce the risk of disease, strengthen bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday activities. Adults who sit less and do any amount of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity gain some health benefits. Everyone can experience the health benefits of physical activity – age, abilities, ethnicity, shape, or size does not matter.

Community Health Tip- Drink Plenty Of Water throughout the day to stay healthy. Consuming enough water every day is important for your health. Drinking water can prevent dehydration, a condition that can cause unclear thinking, result in mood change, cause your body to overheat, and lead to constipation and kidney stones. Water has no calories, so it can also help with managing body weight and reducing calorie intake when substituted for drinks with calories, such as sweet tea or regular soda.
