BIBLE VERSE: 2 Timothy 1:7
For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.

AUTHOR OF 2 Timothy 1:7
Author: The apostle Paul, directly named in 2 Timothy 1:1. Audience: Second Timothy is one of only four letters in the New Testament written by Paul to specific individuals. The others are 1 Timothy, Titus, and Philemon.

VERSE THOUGHTS – 2 Timothy 1:7
Down through the centuries, the normal Christian life has been one of intense persecution, pain, rejection, ridicule, subjugation, and death. The early Church of the first century was scattered far and wide, as an increasingly hostile world fed many to the lions and burnt others at the stake. As we read of men and women of faith (like those listed in the Hebrews 11 role of honour), we discover that many were enslaved, exploited, and exterminated for the sake of Christ.

But from his own incarceration in a Roman jail, the apostle Paul was able to encourage His timid labourer in Christ, by reminding Timothy and us: "God has not given us a spirit of fearfulness, but one of power; of love; of a sound mind and godly judgment."

Timothy, like us all, needed to be reminded that we have the permanently indwelling Holy Spirit of God Who has gifted us and empowered us with all that we need for life and godliness, no matter how difficult or dangerous life in this world may become.

Jesus Himself warned us that in this world we would suffer tribulations and trials, but He also urged us to remember that He has overcome the world: "For greater is He that is in us that he that is in the world."

We all need love in our lives, but true godly love is not something that we struggle to produce through our own fleshly efforts, but can only be produced in us as spiritual fruit as we abide in Christ and He in us.

We all need sound judgment and a disciplined mind, but we cannot achieve this by self-effort and fleshly struggling, nor can this be developed through extra-biblical training-programmes or webinars. But as we look to Jesus and willingly submit to the ongoing child-training and chastening work of the Holy Spirit within, we will experience an inexplicable, inner peace that passes understanding, for this is the promise of God to all whose mind is resting in Christ.

PRAYER
Heavenly Father, I praise and thank You for Your indwelling Holy Spirit and thank You that my life is hid with Christ in God. Thank You that You have not given me a spirit of fear, but one of power, and love, and of a sound mind. May I not fear rejection or ridicule in this increasingly hostile world, nor fear the likelihood of persecution, pain, or even death. But may I fan into flame my faith in Christ so that in Him, I may stand firm in the evil day. In Jesus' name, AMEN.

BLESSINGS & PRAYERS
Jesus, I believe that You are God and Savior of the world. I believe that our Heavenly Father God raised You from the dead, and I know that You can save me and the person reading this prayer. I believe that You are King and Lord over the entire earth, and I want to surrender my whole life to You. You alone can save me and those I love, and You alone are worth following. So please take my life—and give me Yours. Amen.

From the desk of Sonia Zayas Vega– Mother
Sonia Christina Vega, beloved daughter, sister, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on July 2, 2024 at the age of 39 and a half. Sonia was born on December 29th, 1984 in Secaucus NJ, to Mariano Vega Jr. and Sonia Ivette Zayas Vega. She was kind, compassionate, and generous, with a legendary laugh.

Sonia, alternatively known as Christina, T**i Chrissy, or Miss Chrissy, leaves behind her two siblings, her favorite older sister, Vanessa Vega and her favorite younger brother, Mariano Vega III. She is also survived by their spouses, whom she loved greatly: Jeffrey David Coots, and Denise Alves Araujo. She was the proud auntie of Paloma Irene CootsVega (10) and Magnolia Luz CootsVega (, her loving nieces, and was looking forward to welcoming into the world her nephew-to-be (currently in utero) in October, 2024.

Miss Chrissy was many things: a level 1 Black belt in tae kwon do, a talented dancer in a variety of styles (ballet, jazz, West African, tap, pointe, salsa/merengue, hip-hop and belly dancing), a committed student of piano with Miss Kauro, a life-long, expert skier, a world-traveler and polyglot (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese), a dependable and talented therapy assistant, and the best daughter, sister and T**i that anyone could ever ask for. She loved spending time with her family and friends in Jersey City, the Catskills, and Puerto Rico.

She was a sentinel on the Pedestrian Plaza, always alert for her colleagues and the children of Sensory Kids & Social Minds. Though she was limited in her expressive communication, she was always able to express her love through her acts of kindness: pebbling her loved ones with thoughtful gifts, offering deep hugs and committed acts of service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

COUNT DOWN TO YEAR 2025: Today is the 186th day of the year, and there are 179 days remaining.

On July 5, 1946, French designer Louis Réard unveils a daring two-piece swimsuit at the Piscine Molitor, a popular swimming pool in Paris. Parisian showgirl Micheline Bernardini modeled the new fashion, which Réard dubbed “bikini,” inspired by a news-making U.S. atomic test that took place off the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific Ocean earlier that week.

European women first began wearing two-piece bathing suits that consisted of a halter top and shorts in the 1930s, but only a sliver of the midriff was revealed and the navel was vigilantly covered. In the United States, the modest two-piece made its appearance during World War II, when wartime rationing of fabric saw the removal of the skirt panel and other superfluous material.

Meanwhile, in Europe, fortified coastlines and Allied invasions curtailed beach life during the war, and swimsuit development, like everything else non-military, came to a standstill.

In 1946, Western Europeans joyously greeted the first war-free summer in years, and French designers came up with fashions to match the liberated mood of the people. Two French designers, Jacques Heim and Louis Réard, developed competing prototypes of the bikini. Heim called his the “atom” and advertised it as “the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Réard's swimsuit, which was basically a bra top and two inverted triangles of cloth connected by string, was in fact significantly smaller. Made out of a scant 30 inches of fabric, Réard promoted his creation as “smaller than the world’s smallest bathing suit.” Réard called his creation the bikini, named after the Bikini Atoll.

In planning the debut of his new swimsuit, Réard had trouble finding a professional model who would deign to wear the scandalously skimpy two-piece. So he turned to Micheline Bernardini, an exotic dancer at the Casino de Paris, who had no qualms about appearing nearly n**e in public. As an allusion to the headlines that he knew his swimsuit would generate, he printed newspaper type across the suit that Bernardini modeled on July 5 at the Piscine Molitor. The bikini was a hit, especially among men, and Bernardini received some 50,000 fan letters.

Before long, bold young women in bikinis were causing a sensation along the Mediterranean coast. Spain and Italy passed measures prohibiting bikinis on public beaches but later capitulated to the changing times when the swimsuit grew into a mainstay of European beaches in the 1950s. Réard's business soared, and in advertisements he kept the bikini mystique alive by declaring that a two-piece suit wasn’t a genuine bikini “unless it could be pulled through a wedding ring.”

In prudish America, the bikini was successfully resisted until the early 1960s, when a new emphasis on youthful liberation brought the swimsuit en masse to U.S. beaches. It was immortalized by the pop singer Brian Hyland, who sang “Itsy Bitsy Teenie We**ie Yellow Polka-Dot Bikini” in 1960, by the teenage “beach blanket” movies of Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, and by the California surfing culture celebrated by rock groups like the Beach Boys. Since then, the popularity of the bikini has only continued to grow. BY: HISTORY.COM EDITO

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HELEN – LOVE YOU
My dear friend Helen, I was going through my albums enjoying memories of our journey together. It seemed appropriate to do so, on your Special Day -Your Birthday!!
I was looking for the pictures when we where in Puerto Rico and you went out into Dina’s front porch and found yourself face to face with a bull and yelled for help. It was so funny.
Then, I remember us going out, getting drunk, driving back at 2am, pitch dark, no lights and we landed in this dark road. You were panicky. You kept looking for signs and the only ones you found was, “Watch out for cows.” LOL
“Unforgettable adventures, and endless laughter. Happy Birthday, “mi Amiga, I thank God for having you in my life. I cherish our friendship and love you very much. Happy birthday to someone who brings so much warmth into my life.”

BIBLE VERSE: ACTS 20:35
In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

AUTHOR OF ACTS 20:35
In Acts 20:35 the apostle Paul is speaking to the church of Ephesus when he quotes Jesus by saying: “'It is more blessed to give than to receive.” When Jesus says our giving is more blessed, He's telling us that there is more happiness or joy to be found in God when we give, rather than when we receive.
It records the third missionary journey of Paul the Apostle. The book containing this chapter is anonymous, but early Christian tradition uniformly affirmed that Luke the Evangelist composed this book as well as the Gospel of Luke.

VERSE COMMENTARY –ACTS 20:35
In Acts 20:35 the apostle Paul is speaking to the church of Ephesus when he quotes Jesus by saying: “'It is more blessed to give than to receive.” When Jesus says our giving is more blessed, He's telling us that there is more happiness or joy to be found in God when we give, rather than when we receive.
Paul first came to Ephesus on his way home from his second missionary journey and spoke in the synagogue for only one Sabbath (Acts 18:19–21). After he left, Apollos learned about Jesus and spoke of Him some before moving on to Corinth (Acts 18:24–28). Later, Paul came to Ephesus again and spent three months in the synagogue, explaining how Jesus of Nazareth brought the kingdom of God. Some of his audience couldn't accept his words, so he moved to a local hall (Acts 19:8–10). In all, Paul spent three years in Ephesus, establishing and building the church (Acts 20:31).
Now on his way back to Jerusalem, Paul meets with the elders of the church. He reminds them of his service and warns them about coming false teachers. He also tells them he is going to be imprisoned and they will not see him again. Now, he gives them final instructions as he commissions them to faithfully lead their church (Acts 20:17–34).
Paul's hard work showed in two ways. First, for two years, he reasoned daily about how Jesus is the Messiah who fulfills the Old Testament prophecies and brings reconciliation with God (Acts 19:9–10). Second, he worked when he wasn't teaching (Acts 20:34). He didn't want the new believers to be distracted from learning about Christ, so he didn't rely on them for his physical needs or the needs of his team: Timothy and Erastus (Acts 19:22). As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, he would rather live in the freedom of the gospel—the freedom to not demand what he is owed—than inhibit the spread of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:12, 18).
These instructions are for the elders of the church; they are not for the members and attendees. In 1 Corinthians 9:8–12, Paul tells us if a leader feeds us spiritually, we should feed him physically. In 1 Timothy 5:17, he says elders who preach—teaching pastors—should receive "double honor"—meaning, more income. Pastors should not let their need for support get in the way of teaching God's Word, but church members should not pay so little their pastor cannot teach.
This quote isn't found in the Gospels. Jesus did say, "…give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). That doesn't mean Jesus didn't say this; Jesus said many things the Gospels didn't record (John 20:30–31), and Paul may have heard it from one of the apostles. Both the apostle John and Jesus' half-brother James share a similar sentiment in their letters (1 John 3:17–18; James 2:14–17).

PRAYER
Loving Father, Thank you for the blessings in my life. I want to bless others. It’s such a simple thing, but so often, I find obstacles to keep me from acting on my gratitude-–limited finances, time, energy, indecision. Help me overcome the challenges I face that prevent me from doing Your good works to bless others as You have blessed me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

BLESSINGS & PRAYERS –By Nicky Gumbel – HTV Church in London = I once saw an episode a Reality TV Show, the Secret Millionaire by Kevin Green, a multimillionaire, he search for people and their causes. He gave over 100,000 to an arranged of people. Working with the homeless, teenage addicts and disable children. The response of all these people was deeply moving. They were so grateful. The causes they worked for benefit them gratefully, they were Blessed and were able to bring greater Blessings to others. However, the most interest aspect of the program was the change in Kevin Green. He had experience in a new way, the joy of blessing others. His life was changed as a results. The words of Jesus are TRUE, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Generosity, is not just a nice character trait that people have, it is right at the Heart of what our Faith is all about. Your call to be generous stems from God’s generosity to you. God has poured out His generosity to you in Jesus. And you are called to respond in Faith and Generosity to others. The key to the fullness of the blessing, is called generosity. You really can be a Blessing machine!

PICTURE: “The Eisenhower Matrix - Mastering Productivity: The Eisenhower Matrix for Software Developers.”
While the Eisenhower Matrix is not a new tool, its principles echo far beyond just one era. The concept of prioritizing tasks based on urgency and importance has roots in ancient philosophies. Today, it's been adapted with a modern twist for the digital age, helping to ensure that you're not just busy, but also productive.

What is the Eisenhower Matrix?
The Eisenhower Matrix, named after Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States and a five-star general during World War II, is a simple yet powerful method for prioritizing tasks based on their urgency and importance. It divides tasks into four quadrants:
1. Urgent and Important: Tasks that require immediate attention.
2. Important but Not Urgent: Tasks that are important but do not require immediate action.
3. Urgent but Not Important: Tasks that are urgent but not important.
4. Not Urgent and Not Important: Tasks that are neither urgent nor important.

Research in cognitive science supports the efficacy of the Eisenhower Matrix by highlighting how our brains are wired to respond to urgency over importance. This tool helps counteract that instinct, encouraging to make conscious decisions that align with long-term goals and efficiency.

How Can Software Developers Use It?
For software developers, the Eisenhower Matrix can be a game-changer in managing the diverse range of tasks they face daily.

Here's a practical application:
• Quadrant I: Fix that critical bug or security vulnerability before it impacts users.
• Quadrant II: Dedicate time to refactoring code or learning a new programming paradigm without the pressure of looming deadlines.
• Quadrant III: Delegate tasks like responding to non-urgent emails or attending meetings that can be summarized in a brief note.
• Quadrant IV: Identify and eliminate time-wasters, such as unnecessary perfectionism in code that's already functional or scrolling through tech forums without a specific purpose.

Why Use the Eisenhower Matrix?
• Clarity: It helps developers distinguish between tasks that demand immediate attention and those that contribute to long-term goals.
• Efficiency: By focusing on what's truly important, developers can avoid the trap of being "busy" instead of "productive."
• Stress Reduction: Knowing that your tasks are organized according to priority can significantly lower stress levels.
• Work-Life Balance: By scheduling and prioritizing effectively, developers can find more time for personal development, hobbies, and rest.

Tips for Implementing the Eisenhower Matrix
1. Weekly Planning: Spend a few minutes at the beginning of each week to categorize your tasks into the four quadrants. This will give you a clear overview of your priorities.
2. Daily Reviews: At the start of each day, review your tasks to adjust priorities based on any new developments.
3. Use Tools: Leverage project management tools or apps designed for the Eisenhower Matrix to keep track of your tasks and priorities.
4. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no to tasks that fall into Quadrants III and IV. It's essential for maintaining focus on what truly matters.
5. Reflection: At the end of each week, reflect on the tasks you completed. Adjust your approach to spending more time in Quadrant II, which is key to long-term success and fulfilment.

Scientists say that regular use of the Eisenhower Matrix can actually rewire the brain through neuroplasticity, gradually making it easier for individuals to differentiate between urgent and important tasks instinctively. This transformation can lead to more profound changes in how we approach problem-solving and creativity.

UKRAINE 784 DAYS: Fighting
• At least 17 people were killed in the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv after it was struck by three Russian missiles. Emergency services said 60 people, including three children, were injured. About 250,000 people live in Chernihiv, which is about 150km (90 miles) north of the capital, Kyiv.
• One woman was injured by falling debris after Russian forces brought down a done over the Voronezh region. Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said air defense also destroyed 14 airborne targets over the southern Belgorod region. No injuries were reported.
• The BBC reported the number of Russian soldiers killed in the war in Ukraine had topped 50,000. The data was compiled by BBC Russian, independent media group Mediazona and volunteers.
• Colonel Serhii Pakhomov, acting head of the Ukrainian military’s atomic, biological and chemical defense forces, told the Reuters news agency that Kyiv had recorded about 900 uses of riot control agents on the front line by Russia in the past six months. The gases, banned for use on the battlefield by the international Chemical Weapons Convention, are being used to try and clear trenches, Pakhomov said. Some 500 troops had required medical help after exposure to toxic substances on the battlefield and at least one soldier died after suffocating on tear gas, he added.
• Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said the Ukrainian military attacked a large Russian airfield at Dzhankoi in the north of occupied Crimea. A series of explosions were reported at the base. There were no reports of damage. Let’s continue to ask in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, for these wars to end. Please join me in prayers. Thank you, Lord. Amen

April 18th, =COUNT DOWN TO YEAR 2025: Today is the 108th day of the year, and there are 257 days remaining.

Monday April 18th History: Modern rock On April 18, 1906, at 5:13 a.m., an earthquake estimated at close to 8.0 on the Richter scale strikes San Francisco, California, killing an estimated 3,000 people as it topples numerous buildings. The quake was caused by a slip of the San Andreas Fault over a segment about 275 miles long, and shock waves could be felt from southern Oregon down to Los Angeles.

San Francisco’s brick buildings and wooden Victorian structures were especially devastated. Fires immediately broke out and–because broken water mains prevented firefighters from stopping them–firestorms soon developed citywide. At 7 a.m., U.S. Army troops from Fort Mason reported to the Hall of Justice, and San Francisco Mayor E.E. Schmitz called for the enforcement of a dusk-to-dawn curfew and authorized soldiers to shoot to kill anyone found looting. Meanwhile, in the face of significant aftershocks, firefighters and U.S. troops fought desperately to control the ongoing fire, often dynamiting whole city blocks to create firewalls. On April 20, several thousands of refugees trapped by the massive fire were evacuated from the foot of Van Ness Avenue. The army would eventually house 20,000 refugees in more than 20 military-style tent camps across the city.

By April 23, most fires were extinguished, and authorities commenced the task of rebuilding the devastated metropolis. It was estimated that some 3,000 people died as a result of the Great San Francisco Earthquake and the devastating fires it inflicted upon the city. Almost 30,000 buildings were destroyed, including most of the city’s homes and nearly all the central business district.

BIBLE VERSE: John 12:8
You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

AUTHOR OF John 12:8
The author of the book containing this chapter is anonymous, but early Christian tradition uniformly affirmed that John composed this Gospel.
John's is the only one of the four not considered among the Synoptic Gospels (i.e., those presenting a common view). Although the Gospel is ostensibly written by St. John the Apostle, “the beloved disciple” of Jesus, there has been considerable discussion of the actual identity of the author.

VERSE COMMENTARY –John 12:8
Rather, the point is about the uniqueness of this moment. Seven days from the evening described here, there will still be opportunities to feed the poor of Jerusalem; but Jesus will not be there anymore. Mary isn't "wasting" money on something she could have done at any time or any place.
Every word of this verse occurs in the first two Gospels, though not quite in the same order. Here the emphasis is on ‘the poor,’ there on ‘always.’ The striking originality of the saying, and the large claim which it makes, are evidence of its origin from Him who spake as never man spake. Considering how Christ speaks of the poor elsewhere, these words may be regarded as quite beyond the reach of a writer of fiction.
“Jesus” was not saying that there is no use in helping the poor and feeding the hungry, but that using money for seemingly ‘useless’ purposes is valid too. Expanding on Jesus’ meaning, we may say that while the poor and the hungry deserve our assistance, it’s good also to help build a beautiful new church, support a music program, erect a monument to a good person or help construct bicycle paths as a way to cultivate a healthy, natural environment. Jesus’ point may be that there are values of a spiritual or personal nature that are just as real as those of a physical and material nature, and they all deserve our support.” by Mitch Finley

PRAYER
Bless me with graciousness, generosity, thankfulness, and a forgiving spirit. Open my eyes to all that Jesus has done, is doing, and will do for me so that I will more freely share with others my love, possessions, money, and time. In Jesus' name and because of Jesus' love, I pray. Amen.

UKRAINE 759 DAYS: How will the Moscow concert hall attack affect Putin?
Even if some Russians blame their president for failing to foil the attack, they have no other security guarantor.
On Friday, armed men stormed the Crocus Concert Hall outside Moscow, killing at least 137 people and injuring more than 100. A day later, President Vladimir Putin addressed the nation, promising to “identify and punish everyone who stands behind the terrorists who perpetrated this atrocity”.
Some observers may see this moment as history coming full circle. Once again Russia is in the midst of a bloody war and facing terrorist attacks and once again Putin is in charge.
The Russian president came to power in 2000 amid war in Chechnya and in the wake of bombing attacks in Moscow. His promise as a young and energetic leader was to bring stability and security to the country. And he did.
Putin managed to put an end to the Second Chechen War with a combination of brutal military force and political maneuvering. He managed to split the Chechen forces by putting their religious leader, Akhmad Kadyrov, the father of the current ruler, Ramzan Kadyrov, in charge of the republic. As the Chechen rebellion was suppressed, terrorist activity also dwindled. The last major terror attack in Russia took place in 2011.
His success in the Russian “war on terror” has been one of the major achievements of Putin’s rule and one of the main reasons for his political longevity. He is being widely credited for bringing security and a semblance of order to Russia after the turbulent decade that followed the collapse of the USSR.
Today, 30 years later, the threat that Russians hoped they would never face again is back, causing anxiety and demoralizing society. A much older Putin is making the same promise amid a crisis that at least some Russians blame on him. Will he be believed?
The attack on the Crocus Concert Hall, which the ISIL (ISIS) affiliate Islamic State in Khorasan Province (ISKP) has claimed responsibility for, comes against the backdrop of Russia’s brutal aggression in Ukraine. Unsurprisingly, within hours of the tragedy, Putin and his security bodies were already linking it to Ukraine.
Their claims derived from the fact that four of the suspects, who had made it out of the burning venue by blending into the fleeing crowd, were detained about 140km (90 miles) from the Ukrainian border. In his address to the nation, Putin claimed that they had been offered an “open window” at the border, supposedly by Ukraine’s security services.
Ukraine denied any involvement in the attack. United States officials were adamant that it was carried out by ISKP and Ukraine had nothing to do with it. The US had indeed warned about the possibility of an attack in Moscow, citing its own intelligence, which it said it had shared with the Russians.
Pro-Kremlin commentators and media who have pushed the theory of the Ukrainian connection have pointed to suspected Ukrainian involvement in the bombing attacks that killed prominent pro-war blogger Maksim Fomin, better known as Vladlen Tatarsky, as well as Daria Dugina, the daughter of the far-right ideologist Aleksandr Dugin. Another bombing destroyed a section of the bridge that connects Russia to occupied Crimea.
A few pro-Kremlin commentators like the war-monitoring collective Rybar have also gone as far as pointing a finger at the US and claiming that it supports ISKP in Afghanistan to undermine the Taliban.
Pro-Ukrainian commentators, on the other hand, have been quick to revive a longstanding theory suggesting that Putin could have staged a bombing in Moscow in 1999 to seize power. The Crocus attack, they claimed, was another false flag operation staged by his regime.
The suspects arrested by the Russian security services appear to be ordinary Tajik migrants, like the 1.3 million Tajiks working in Russia. Russian independent media have confirmed that photos of the arrested men match those in the numerous visuals of the attackers in the concert hall.
One of them said he was recruited by an aide to a Muslim preacher and offered about 5,000 euros ($5,420) for the attack. The testimonies were obtained through torture that Russian security services weren’t shy of circulating online; suspects were electrocuted, one had his ear cut off.
No matter who recruited them to carry out the attack, its aim was to demoralize the Russian population.
So will Russians blame Putin for failing to avert the tragedy? Collective psychology is notoriously unpredictable. Some may, but it is unlikely that anything would come of it.
Even without this attack, it has been clear to the Russian population that the period of stability, security and economic growth that Putin has been lauded for is long over. War is literally at the door with Ukrainian forces conducting incursions into Russian territory, sending drones to strike oil refineries and destroying Russian battleships in the Black Sea.
The thinking behind the idea of bringing war into Russian territory – aired by many in Ukrainian security circles since 2014 – assumes that instability and the lack of security would somehow shake Putin’s regime and eventually lead to its downfall. But this idea has proved irrational and delusional over and over again.
Unlike Ukraine, which has the backing of the West behind it, Russians don’t have an alternative guarantor of security they could swap Putin for, even at their own peril – the way Ukrainians did it in the last decade. No matter what they think about Putin, they are existentially dependent on him in the situation that most of them see, like it or not, as a proxy war the West is waging against Russia rather than Russia’s own aggression against neighboring countries.
Their current security arrangement is a trap with no other option but to sit tight and hope that a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine will be found and life will return to normal.
The way things are going on the front lines in Ukraine at the moment, this hope is far more grounded in reality than a nebulous better future they could achieve by attempting to topple Putin, which in current conditions would most likely precipitate a civil war. There is doom, gloom and a firm determination to sit it out until the age of troubles is over one way or another.
Let’s continue to ask in the name of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, for these wars to end. Please join me in prayers. Thank you, Lord. Amen

March 25th =COUNT DOWN TO YEAR 2025: Today is the 82nd day of the year, and there are 281 days remaining.

MARCH 25, In one of the darkest moments of America’s industrial history, the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory in New York City burns, killing 146 workers, on March 25, 1911. The tragedy led to the development of a series of laws and regulations that better protected the safety of factory workers.
The Triangle factory, owned by Max Blanck and Isaac Harris, was located in the top three floors of the 10-story Asch Building in downtown Manhattan. It was a sweatshop in every sense of the word: a cramped space lined with workstations and packed with poor immigrant workers, mostly teenage women who did not speak English. At the time of the fire, there were four elevators with access to the factory floors, but only one was fully operational and it could hold only 12 people at a time. There were two stairways down to the street, but one was locked from the outside to prevent theft by the workers and the other opened inward only. The fire escape, as all would come to see, was shoddily constructed, and could not support the weight of more than a few women at a time.
Blanck and Harris already had a suspicious history of factory fires. The Triangle factory was twice scorched in 1902, while their Diamond Waist Company factory burned twice, in 1907 and in 1910. It seems that Blanck and Harris deliberately torched their workplaces before business hours in order to collect on the large fire insurance policies they purchased, a not uncommon practice in the early 20th century. While this was not the cause of the 1911 fire, it contributed to the tragedy, as Blanck and Harris refused to install sprinkler systems and take other safety measures in case they needed to burn down their shops again.
Added to this delinquency were Blanck and Harris’ notorious anti-worker policies. Their employees were paid a mere $15 a week, despite working 12 hours a day, every day. When the International Ladies Garment Workers Union led a strike in 1909 demanding higher pay and shorter and more predictable hours, Blanck and Harris’ company was one of the few manufacturers who resisted, hiring police as thugs to imprison the striking women, and paying off politicians to look the other way.
On March 25, a Saturday afternoon, there were 600 workers at the factory when a fire broke out in a rag bin on the eighth floor. The manager turned the fire hose on it, but the hose was rotted and its valve was rusted shut. Panic ensued as the workers fled to every exit. The elevator broke down after only four trips, and women began jumping down the shaft to their deaths. Those who fled down the wrong set of stairs were trapped inside and burned alive. Other women trapped on the eighth floor began jumping out the windows, which created a problem for the firefighters whose hoses were crushed by falling bodies. Also, the firefighters’ ladders stretched only as high as the seventh floor, and their safety nets were not strong enough to catch the women, who were jumping three at a time.
Blanck and Harris were on the building’s top floor with some workers when the fire broke out. They were able to escape by climbing onto the roof and hopping to an adjoining building.
The fire was out within half an hour, but not before over 140 died. The workers’ union organized a march on April 5 to protest the conditions that led to the fire; it was attended by 80,000 people.
Though Blanck and Harris were put on trial for manslaughter, they managed to get off scot-free. Still, the massacre for which they were responsible did finally compel the city to enact reform. In addition to the Sullivan-Hoey Fire Prevention Law passed that October, the New York Democratic set took up the cause of the worker and became known as a reform party.
