"ARTISTS THAT INSPIRE FUTURE GENERATIONS" is the tile of the
10th Anniversary JC Youth Summer Mural Arts Program of 2024. The mural captures the essence of art as a cornerstone of human history and culture. It’s a celebration of how art and culture have not only reflected but also shaped the journey of humankind. By highlighting artists who have used their platforms for social change and influence, the mural emphasizes the enduring power of art to inspire, provoke thought, and drive progress throughout history. The students worked together with the art instructors on the final layout, and ultimately decided who would appear on the wall, selecting inspiring artists throughout history liked; J.M.W.Turner, Frida Kahlo, Pablo Picasso, Francis Bacon, Hlima af Klint, Umberto Boccioni, Nam June Paik, Toulouse Lautrec, Louise Nevelson, Kara Walker, Takashi Murakami, among many others.

The Jersey City Summer Youth Mural Arts Program is presented by the Jersey City Mural Arts Program part of the Jersey City Office of Cultural Affairs. This hands-on, intensive muralist workshop for young artists is led by fine artist and filmmaker Duda Penteado and fine artist and muralist Catherine Hart. The twenty five art students, ages 13 to 25 selected to participate in 2024's six-week program, are currently working on the large mural project ( 100-foot by 50-foot ) located on 90 Forrest St. in the heart of the artsy Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood in Jersey City. Stay tuned for photos of the completed project!
