The first pride was a riot.

I was not accepted by my father when coming out. In anger, he tried to kick me out of the house. My mother didn’t let that happen, leaving him and his toxicity, as she knew that I was still family no matter who I was. That was love. That is an ally.

In this month, I am reminded of that event and of the many people who are are allies of LGBTQ people.

We see you.

Allies are those you want to be around you: the community and family you built from the old remains of the past that didn’t accept you.

Don’t let a silly corporation changing their logo to a rainbow fool you: that does not mean they are allies of LGBTQ people. It is a simple token gesture.

Easily done without having to actually support us.
