Beginning of open mic
Great picture Scott!
Hello everybody,
As we all know, cases in the area and around the US are spiking right now, and the combination of the cold weather and holiday travel are predicted to make things worse before it gets better. I also don't want to be at the mercy of the cold weather when hosting exclusively outside where it is safer, so Open Mic will be postponed until March of 2021, with today's open mic being cancelled.
This decision was not an easy one for sure, because I know I am not alone in seeing the positive effect in being able host a performance space in the community, but it is one out of necessity. I will miss everyone who came out to both perform and watch and really appreciate the support you've all given so far to this endeavor. I believe that by taking precautions now, we will be able to come together stronger in 2021, and I very much look forward to it. So take this time to practice those instruments, write, compose, and lets make up for all that 2020 has taken from us in 2021.
Until next time,
-James Uraski
Just another reminder, Open mic will not be happening today, but we will be resuming Tuesday open mics next Tuesday! (12/1) See you then, thankful for everyone who comes out for open mic:)
Hey everyone! Due to plans taking me out of town, this week's open mic (11/24) will be cancelled:( Will sincerely miss you all. This will allow us the opportunity to have an even bigger performance the following Tuesday:) See you then!
Thank you everyone for coming out last night for open mic and have a safe Halloweekend! 🎃🍬
I would like to let all of you know about an event that The Acoustic Coffeehouse will be hosting: an open mic at 6:30 pm every Tuesday, starting this Tuesday at JRH Brewery, which most of you know is on Walnut Street in the same block but across the street as the old Coffeehouse.
Let me tell you a little about how this has come about: A few months ago, just after the Willow Tree closed, I was contacted by a fellow named Uraski who had moved here after the Coffeehouse closed but had gone to open mics at the Willow Tree and, because they had closed, was interested in opening another place. He asked me for advice and we began discussing potential locations. He had found one that we both thought was ideal but after deeper investigation we found there were insurmountable problems with it so I suggested that if he wanted to get an open mic going sooner than later we might consider JRH Brewery. This location is ideal because it is possible to do social distancing by having the event in their parking lot and spacing everyone out. This was very important to James because he doesn't want to create a situation that puts anyone at risk. To that end he is also going to use a plexiglass barrier between the performers and the audience, and will keep the mics and stage area disinfected throughout the event.
There will be an outdoor table where high-quality coffee (from Doe River Coffee Roasters), tea and snacks will be sold. We will try to stay outside as long as weather permits but will have the option of moving into the brewhouse when that should become necessary, and during the winter will have hot drinks, hand warmers, and winter coats to keep people warm while also keeping them safe.
We are also planning to expand into future events, such as spoken word events and casual jam times.
For those who don't know, there is an Alley Cat food truck located in the JRH parking lot with some great food offerings, and of course there is plenty of delicious beer in the taproom. I look forward to seeing you all there. This can be a great place for us to meet up again!
James will be creating a Facebook event soon with more details.

Quick Six playing out back in 2007. The City then told us this kind of thing wasn't allowed.
The love and support from the huge crowd that came out last night was just incredible and so heart-warming to see. Everybody who was there got to experience the magic of the Coffeehouse one more time, and again it was obvious that the magic came from the people who were there, just as it has always been. It was wonderful to see so many old friends again and to see people renewing old friendships. Although we drank most of the beer there is still some left, so come back tonight and bring a bottle if you like and ring in the New Year. There will be a band, Rhythm and the Roosevelts, playing until midnight. John is going to bring some finger foods and Randy says he's going to play late up to the last minute we're open, probably with that fiddle player you might have seen playing with him, so it should be a great night again, and for everyone who is out of town or can't be there please know that we treasure all of the heartfelt comments that have been made and the sentiments that have been expressed.
Thanks Stacy for posting this video from a number of years ago. Pretty much the way I'm feeling...
See You in My Dreams Mal Cooper Quintet
Sorry to have to announce this but the Coffeehouse will cease operation after tomorrow night, Dec 31. It's been a great run of 15 years. There is much that could be said about it but for me the most gratifying aspect has been seeing all of the people who met and formed friendships over the years. It would be interesting to know how many babies have been a result of people who met at the Coffeehouse! Come down and share a pint with us on these last two nights, and best wishes to all.
We're opening at 6 tonight, tomorrow and Sunday. We missed our Wednesday beer special this week so all drafts are on special tonight. There's a fresh pot of Hearty Fish Gumbo, only $2 per bowl, and fresh pulled pork! Randy and the Lugnuts play at 10pm after Mary Sullivan.
We are back open tonight 12/29/17 at 6pm! We will open at 6pm through Monday! Hope to see everyone out for what's sure to be a awesome weekend.
