Southern Tier Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol

Cadets joined with Congressman Marc Molinaro in honoring Vietnam veterans today at the Maine-Endwell High School. Great job to our color guard team who represented the New York Wing, Civil Air Patrol and the Southern Tier Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol with pride and distinction.

Our cadets under the tutelage of 2d Lt Salai (AEO), participated in a model rocketry bivouac in Norwich this last weekend. The cadets in attendance were afforded the opportunity to build and launch model rockets of varying sizes, learn a bit of astronomy with the use of a telescope, and provided multiple orientation flights by our gracious host and pilot, Capt Cohen. In all, cadets had a blast expanding their aerospace education knowledge, making memories, and worked towards earning their model rocketry badges. So, congratulations to those 3 cadets who met the requirements to be awarded their badge, and a big thank you to Capt Cohen for all that you provided to make this weekend happen.

Cadets and senior staff from the Southern Tier Composite Squadron recently participated in the 40th annual Spiedie Fest at Ostiningo Park in Binghamton. Cadets had a great time in assisting the ground handlers with launching the hot air balloons, and a valiant effort was put in by the recruitment teams. A big thank you to the Syracuse Cadet Squadron and Tri-County Flight, Civil Air Patrol for lending us your cadets.

Congratulations to C/2d Lt Lily Emmond on her successful completion of the 2024 Mid-Atlantic Region Honor Guard Academy at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and in earning her silver shoulder cord and the title of Ceremonial Guardsman. The Southern Tier Composite Squadron is very proud of your commitment and sense of duty to this new role.

Congratulations to cadets Marino and Noonan who completed their first encampment last week, with cadet Marino attending the Indiana Wing Encampment, and Cadet Noonan attending the New York Wing Encampment. With that, we would like to give a big shout out to two of our senior cadets, C/CMSgt Hartman and C/CMSgt McGowan who staffed the event through various positions. Through honor, respect, leadership, and duty, you all have made the Southern Tier Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol very proud!!

Southern Tier Composite Squadron joined with squadrons from across Central New York Group- Civil Air Patrol at the air show hosted by the Greater Binghamton Airport (BGM) / Edwin A Link Field this weekend. In addition to interacting with the general population via recruitment efforts, and assisting Broome Security with flight line safety, cadets and senior staff were afforded the opportunity to expand their aviation knowledge, and were even lucky enough to meet with the men and women of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels in a "grip and meet." Thank you to all who made this experience possible!

Blue Angels Grip and Greet with local Cadets Cadets from Civil Air Patrol’s Central NY Group were able to participate in a “Grip and Greet” with the US Navy Blue Angels for the 4th of July.

Members joined others from Central New York Group- Civil Air Patrol for a "Grip and Greet" with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels ahead of the Greater Binghamton Airshow.

Congratulations to our recent high school graduates from 292, "C/1st Lt Sanchez, C/2d Lt Carangelo, C/CMSgt Rice, and C/CMSgt Rosecrans." May you find success and happiness in whatever life brings you!

On June 26th, our cadets and senior staff joined with cadets from Syracuse Cadet Squadron and Fort Drum Composite Squadron to participate in an exciting Northeast Region sponsored Glider Orientation Flight. This was a memorable first time experience for all involved.

A big thank you to the crew of the Dicks House of Sport blimp, who provided a unique opportunity for our cadets and staff last night.

Just a few promotions from this last meeting. Congratulations to all!

Last night the squadron had an Emergency Services training where the cadets participated in searching techniques, we did two types of methods which were the line search and the hasty search. There was nothing but good feedback back from the cadets so I think it’s safe to say that it was a great day for 292!

Our cadets, along with those from the Twin Tier Cadet Squadron had the distinct honor in assisting with the Return of the Red Tails event, hosted by the local chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen. Cadets thoroughly enjoyed engaging with their local community and learning a great deal about these pioneers in military aviation history.
