So you've called 911, administered Narcan, and the person is waking up but nobody is on scene yet. It's still just you and this person you just helped. What do you say to them??
Waking up from an overdose reversal can be traumatic, and disorienting. It's best to stay with them for up to 90 minutes if emergency services are unavailable, and always stay with them until emergency services arrive.
It's not time for shaming, arguing, shouting or stigmatizing speech, but a gentle "Welcome back."

On this Overdose Awareness Day, we pause to reflect on the journey that began just one year ago. Today, we mark the first anniversary of the naloxone vending machine at the Johnson Health Center. We are proud to be Vermont's first harm reduction vending machine site. Over the last year we have distributed 879 doses of naloxone.
Each dose represents not just a potential life saved, but a story of resilience, courage, and the unwavering belief that every life is worth fighting for. These 879 doses might very well be the saving grace for brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and moms and dads—each a loved member of a family, each a vital thread in the fabric of our community. Together, we are writing a story of hope and change, and our community is showing the world that through innovation and compassion, we can overcome even the darkest challenges. Here's to another year of moving our state and community forward and inspiring hope. 🌟
