Juneau Animal Rescue
Promoting animal welfare by educating, protecting & sheltering stray, abandoned, & surrendered pets.
Our animal shelter began as a small shed under the bridge over Gastineau Channel. While we will always be proud of those humble beginnings, our new name and logo more accurately convey the community spirit of the organization that has served Juneau’s animal population since 1963. In January 2019 we changed our name to Juneau Animal Rescue, hoping to strengthen awareness of our organization and exp

Let's take a moment to appreciate our feline overlords who:
1. Grace us with their presence (when they feel like it).
2. Knock everything off the table at 3 AM (it's an art, really).
3. Remind us that any box, no matter the size, is the perfect place to sit.

Juno is available for adoption from Juneau Animal Rescue. Juno and Executive Director Rick Driscoll visited the Cliff Dumas morning show on kinyradio.com
Due to the likelihood of flooding during and after the Su***de Basin release, the crest of 15+ ft. predicted to happen between 12am-4am Tuesday morning, and expected evacuations in areas of major flooding, Juneau Animal Rescue is offering emergency boarding for pets in need (as space allows). Please contact Animal Control & Protection at 907-789-6997 if you need emergency assistance. Stay safe!💜
Meet Juno: A Special Street Dog Looking for Her Forever Home
Juno is ready to find her new home! She has been doing wonderfully at JAR and has made many new friends. Here’s some additional information about Juno and things to consider if you are interested in applying to adopt her:
• Juno is a mature 7-year-old husky/malamute mix.
• Juno has spent most of her life outdoors and might initially (or permanently) prefer an outdoor environment as she adjusts to a new home.
• Juno is in good health now. She has had a wellness exam; her blood work is good/normal for her age. She’s received updated vaccines, been spayed, microchipped, treated for a UTI, and received a full dental evaluation and teeth cleaning, including the surgical removal of two very damaged teeth.
Behavior:
• Because Juno’s owner was constantly with her, she does experience separation anxiety, so she may feel stressed when left alone and would benefit from an adopter who can provide companionship and reassurance.
• Juno has a distinctive, high-pitched howl that resembles a wolf's, which potential owners should be prepared for.
• Juno walks well on a leash, making her a great companion for walks and outdoor adventures.
• At JAR she has been very mellow around other dogs, though her reaction to cats is still uncertain.
Ideal Home:
• Because Juno is a well-known dog in Juneau, her new family should be comfortable with the attention that comes with her local recognition.
• A home with a yard or access to outdoor spaces would be ideal to accommodate her outdoor preferences.
• She is a FURRY dog and will require lots of brushing (which she loves), so a household should be prepared for shedding common with her breed.
• Owners who can provide patience, understanding, and stability will help Juno adjust to her new life and manage her separation anxiety.
• She has had limited exposure to children, she may need time to warm up to little ones in the household.
Adoption Details:
• Adoption applications for Juno will be accepted beginning on Monday, 8/5/24.
• Before submitting your application, all cats & dogs in your home must have a current rabies vaccination and dogs must be licensed for 2024.
• To apply to adopt Juno, visit the adoption page on our website and download the application:
https://www.juneauanimalrescue.org/adopt.html
• Completed applications can be emailed to [email protected] or dropped off at our reception desk.
• We will be setting up visits for approved applicants later this week.
Is yours the perfect home for our special girl, Juno?

Good news for all those traveling with dogs to/through Canada! The CDC has greatly rolled back their new requirements. Now all you need is:
- Rabies certificate for entry into Canada and most of the states.
- Appear healthy upon arrival to the U.S.
- Be at least 6 months old at time of entry or return to the U.S.
- Must have a microchip that can be detected with a universal scanner to identify them (ISO chip is not required).
- Have a CDC Dog Import Form Receipt (the person traveling with the dog fills this out online a few days before entry into the US).
- For reentry into Alaska, the health certificate we have always done is still required. It is also required by many other states; check on the USDA pet travel website for individual state requirements.

Juneau Animal Rescue and Animal Control would like to address yesterday’s incident downtown where one of our community’s unhoused dog owners passed away.
Juno is currently safe, fed, and warm at JAR. Juno is familiar with being here and always gets lots of love from our staff. She is in good hands.
Per city ordinances, when an animal comes to the shelter after someone has passed away, they fall under a 10-day Animal Control Safe-Keep period. This gives Animal Control time to contact next-of-kin and discuss the animal’s situation. They also receive a medical evaluation and are provided with appropriate care. Because of this, she is unable to receive visitors at this time.
We are very grateful for the public’s outpouring of support for Juno. We’ve fielded many phone calls, emails, and messages asking how people can help. Please know she will be well cared for while she is here.
When animals come to JAR in these types of situations and people want to help, we refer them to our Second Chance Fund. This fund assists animals like Juno who need special care of one kind or another to live their lives in the healthiest and happiest way possible. At this point, we know Juno will likely need routine medical care, dental work and grooming. We’ll know more later. If anyone wishes to donate, you can do so through the link below:

National Pet Fire Safety Day on July 15 reminds us to consider our pets when planning fire routes and safety in our homes.
Our pets are as much a part of our family as any other member. This day stresses the importance of protecting them. Taking preventable measures now can both save your home and your pet. Many times our pets can cause a fire if we don't take the proper precautions. Follow these tips to help keep your pets safe!

CDC's new rules for dogs entering the US will have unique impacts in Alaska The new border rules include a ban on bringing any dog under six months old into the U.S.
