The School District of Palm Beach County schools are closed tomorrow.

Due to the forecasted severe weather conditions associated with Hurricane Helene, all District-operated schools and offices will be closed Thursday, September 26. All extracurricular activities, after-school programs, sports, school meetings, and other on-campus events are also canceled. The safety of our students and staff is our top priority. According to the National Hurricane Center and local emergency management officials, anticipated sustained winds exceed limits for safe school bus operation.

All School District employees should not report to work tomorrow unless otherwise directed by their supervisor.

Normal school and District operations will resume on Friday, September 27. No make-up day will be added to the school calendar for this closure.

Mayor Pinto was a Veteran and dedicated public servant. His impact spread far beyond the borders of Royal Palm Beach and I was grateful to work with him on local community issues while serving the Town of Jupiter. It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mayor, Fred Pinto, who left us over the weekend. Mayor Pinto’s unwavering commitment and service to our community will forever be remembered and cherished. During this difficult time, Vice Mayor Jeff Hmara will assume the mayor's responsibilities. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with Mayor Pinto’s family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

DEPARTMENT MOURNS FALLEN OFFICER

The West Palm Beach Police Department is mourning the death of Officer Jeremy Boykins.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news of Officer Jeremy Boykins’ passing this morning,” Chief Frank Adderley said. “Jeremy was not only a dedicated officer, but also a beloved friend and colleague to many of us.”

Officer Boykins, 29, a West Palm Beach resident, died Tuesday morning following medical complications. Monday afternoon, Boykins, a two-year veteran of the department, fell ill during Emergency Field Force tryouts and was taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center. Boykins underwent surgery Monday night and died early Tuesday morning.

“During this difficult time, we ask that you keep Jeremy’s family and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers,” Adderley said. Officer Boykins was hired May 2, 2022, and began his service in road patrol. In March 2024, he was assigned to the Bike Patrol Unit. He was a recipient of the Anthony Testa Tactical Lifesaving Award for his actions in saving a gunshot victim on December 29, 2022. During his service, Boykins also received three certificates of commendation and a certificate of appreciation. He is survived by his wife and two children. Funeral services and arrangements are pending.

80 years ago Allied forces stormed the Normandy beaches. I will never forget visiting those beaches with my grandfather, a WWII pacific theatre veteran and imagining what those soldiers, some of whom he knew, faced approaching and landing on the beaches. I also vividly remember visiting Auschwitz and other concentration camps which would never had been liberated without the brave men and women who freed Europe from N**i control. One of my dad's favorite things to do when we lived in France was taking family and friends who were visiting out to the beaches to see how monumental the bravery of the Allied soldiers was in liberating Europe. Attached are photos from one of my visits with him. These are some of the memories that remind me every day that we must fight all forms of hate.
